Playmate Ashley Mattingly was hospitalized for vomiting blood after drinking too much 2 days before suicide
Former Playboy Playmate Ashley Mattingly shared a video of herself lying in a hospital bed just two days before she took the drastic step of ending her life.
MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) previously reported that Mattingly had been found unresponsive at her home in Austin, Texas, on Friday, April 17, after her friend had called the police department for a wellness check because they had not heard from her for several days.
Her body had been discovered three days after her suicide, believed to have been caused by a long battle with alcohol and drug abuse. She was just 33.
In her final Instagram post on April 13, Mattingly had filmed herself lying in a hospital bed and revealed that she was "sick from alcohol."
She could be seen wearing a green hospital gown and had an oxygen tube, though both were distorted with the filter she was using. Her words were difficult to decipher as well, though she appeared to warn her fans from drinking too much.
"I'm sick with alcohol...don't drink it. Don't drink it. Leave it alone," she said.
"I'm not quarantined I took bad advice and drank too much which I vomited a lot of blood - please slow down on the drinking! You won't be able to get into a hospital, I'm lucky!" she added in the caption.
Fans expressed their shock and sadness at her sudden demise and flooded the comment section with tributes.
"Omg I feel so sorry you went through all this," one wrote. "You are now in a better place but deserve to still be on earth and not dealing with such struggles. Rest In Paradise."
"It saddens me to learn you were struggling so much. You will be missed," another commented.
That post was not the only one where the once-popular Playboy Miss March 2011 hinted at her struggle with alcohol. In a post she made on February 6, she hinted at her affliction towards drinking and promised herself she wouldn't be known as the "drunk playboy playmate."
"I Ashley Mattingly is not going down as you're drunk playboy playmate! Remember this!" she wrote. In a photo she had shared a day before, she wrote, "Death isn't funny!"
Her family implied her struggles with alcohol and drugs was behind her death as well. "We learned late Thursday night that it is believed that our dear sister with a larger-than-life personality took her own life," they said in their statement.
"Ashley moved closer to home a couple of years ago and was living in Austin. It's maybe no secret that Ashley struggled with alcohol and substance abuse, but she wanted to and was working to get better."
Mattingly had also been a victim of an alleged abusive relationship in 2012 with 'Prison Break' star Lane Garrison, with surveillance cameras at her Beverly Hills apartment capturing him slapping her in the face. He eventually pleaded no contest to charges and was sentenced to probation, counseling and a fine after spending two months in jail.
