Anthony Bourdain's ex-wife shares an image of their ‘strong and brave’ daughter after his mournful suicide
It was just last week that the world saw the sad demise of beloved celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. Days after his suicide came to light, his ex-wife Ottavia Busia-Bourdain shared a picture of their 11-year-old daughter, and in the post, called her “so strong and brave.”
Bourdain's ex posted the picture on Monday, which showed an Ariane dressed in all black and tall studded boots, clutching closely a microphone at DROM music venue in Alphabet City. For all those who aren't aware of this, Ariane is Bourdain’s only child.
Ottavia's post read, “Our little girl had her concert today. She was amazing. So strong and brave,” the proud mom captioned the photo. “She wore the boots you bought her. I hope you are having a good trip, wherever you are.”
According to a source at People Magazine, the late celebrity chef saw being a father as one of the bright spots of his life. “It was quite evident that Tony was a ‘lighter’ human being around his daughter,” said the source. “When he spoke about her, his eyes danced. He talked about her constantly.”
In his last interview with the publication, Bourdain revealed that he never shot in two cities back-to-back for his CNN series 'Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown', and this was clearly put in place so that he could spend five days a month with Ariane, who lives with her mother in New York.
“I also do feel I have things to live for,” he explained. “There have been times, honestly, in my life that I figured, ‘I’ve had a good run — why not just do this stupid thing, this selfish thing… jump off a cliff into water of indeterminate depth,'” he said.
Bourdain and ex-wife Ottavia shared quite a close relationship, even though the couple were married for nine long years before the celebrity chef's busy career tore their relationship apart and contributed to their split in 2016.
“My wife and I live, have lived, very separate lives for years,” Bourdain told People magazine at the time. “There’s no drama here. We get along really, really well and it’s not a big lifestyle change happening here.”
From multiple reports that have been circulating the web since Friday, Bourdain was found unresponsive in his hotel room in Kaysersberg, France. He was discovered by his close friend Eric Ripert, according to CNN, where the duo was filming an upcoming episode of Parts Unknown.
The tv personality's suicide came as a huge shock to the world, and the former New York Times editor, his mother, Gladys Bourdain said that she had no idea of her son thinking about suicide. “He is absolutely the last person in the world I would have ever dreamed would do something like this,” she told the publication.
She also mentioned that Eric Ripert, on speaking to her days before her son's suicide, had said that, “Tony had been in a dark mood these past couple of days.”
