Anne Heche's ex James Tupper accused her of 'extended drug usage' as actress battles crash aftermath
James Tupper, Anne Heche's ex, accused her of 'extended drug usage' in a bitter custody dispute while she is being probed for a possible DUI after a fiery crash. In court records obtained by Radar Online, Heche's ex-husband James Tupper accused that he lost $450,000 of their money through shady deals by suggesting that she may have engaged in ‘extensive drug usage.’ The ‘Six Days, Seven Nights’ actress, 53, who share a 13-year-old son named Atlas Heche Tupper with Tupper, pulled the plug on their 10-year relationship in 2017, and following that things got ugly.
Heche charged Tupper with attempting to sell their posh Los Angeles property in secret and behind her back. The former couple first consented to the unique agreement that they would live in the house separately, alternating weeks during their time with Atlas, after their breakup. Heche asserted that the ‘Big Little Lies’ actor went back on his word and altered the security code and keys. She claimed he intended to show the house to inspectors and list the house for sale. In an effort to prevent her and their son from being locked out of the house in the future, Heche hurried to court in November 2019 and asked the judge for an emergency ruling.

Tupper refuted her claims in a statement to the court that was obtained by RadarOnline, saying he hadn't changed the code in decades. Additionally, he denied locking his ex out. Tupper stated, "I truly do not understand this drama and hope it isn't linked to extended drug use. Anne accuses me of denying her access to the house by changing the locks and alarm code. This is absolutely false. I did not change the locks, nor did anyone else. ... This code works today, worked yesterday, and has worked continually for a decade. I have never deactivated it. ... On the night she claims to have been cast out, Anne's other son (a 17-year-old boy) entered and spent the night at the property, without incident. ... Obviously, if Anne wanted to get into the house, even if she has lost her key and somehow forgot her alarm code (which is inconceivable), she could have simply asked her son to let her in."
The ex-partners have been at odds over custody of their son for years; the charges regarding the home and drugs were not the only ones. Given the horrific crash, in which Heche was involved, Tupper's comment about Heche's potential drug use may become relevant to investigators. Meanwhile, Heche entered a coma soon after the accident and still remains in critical care. Prior to the incident, she was seen driving erratically and investigators believe that she was under the influence of alcohol. A warrant seeking Heche's blood was obtained by the Los Angeles Police Department. If the charges against the actress of using drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision are proved, then she may be prosecuted with a misdemeanor DUI hit-and-run.
