'Reading Rainbows' star LeVar Burton is one of the kindest and most patient people in Hollywood.  Generations of children who have grown up to the legendary actor reading children's stories to them, were totally taken by surprise when they saw the usually soft-spoken actor shoot off an angry tweet on his page. LeVar tweeted warning people not to 'try him today' on Friday, May 29.

He tweeted, "Don’t f*ck with me today, people. Today is not the day!" On seeing LeVar's tweet, fans immediately began expressing concern for him and offering to protect him. A fan tweeted, "Please, please do not mess with LeVar Burton. My heart can't handle it.." Another fan shared, "OH My! You know it's about to go down when LeVar Burton says This! People if this doesn't wake you up then you are dead! WOW! Sending virtual hugs to you @levarburton I'm feeling the same way! There are no more words none! PERIOD!" "LeVar Burton is popping off today and I'M HERE FOR IT. You come for LeVar you come for me and so many others. This man is a living legend, you best recognize."

So, what got LeVar so upset? Trump's tweet in the aftermath of George Floyd's death has not gone down well with many on social media. Several protesters have taken to streets to protest the brutal killing of Floyd by a police officer. Although Trump expressed his condolences on Floyd's passing, he referred to the protesters protesting his death on the streets of Minneapolis as "thugs", before adding "when the looting starts, the shooting starts". He tweeted, "....These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!"

Twitter immediately flagged the president's tweet for violating the platform's rules of glorifying violence, but still decided to keep the tweet on the platform in the public's interest. Following Trump's tweet, people began slamming him and several such tweets caught LeVar's eyes. Before tweeting his warning message, LeVar replied to a bunch of tweets slamming Trump and his language. A comment by Twitter user Rory Gordin piqued LeVar's interest. Rory tweeted, "Trying to justify rioting and looting is not helping things. These people that are having their property stolen or destroyed didn't cause these problems and nothing justifies this behavior."

LeVar responded to Rory with two separate tweets expressing how unhappy he was with the current situation. He wrote, "When a sports team wins or loses a championship and people gather in large numbers and light shit in fire those actions are somehow categorized differently. You want to focus on the destruction of property go right ahead. You do you." In another tweet, LeVar continued, "My focus is the underlying cause. I am so sick and tired of Black people being held to such a different standard by white people. Enough already... Check your privilege for a moment and examine the narrative you’ve even fed that paints POC as enemies of the state."

A fan observing LeVar's rage against Trump and police brutality recounted, "LeVar Burton once told a story in an interview about how he was taught to roll down his windows and press his palms against his car door when pulled over. It was the first instance I'd ever heard of a black man having to preemptively deescalate the cops. It brought me to tears."
