Angelina Jolie 'very proud' as son Maddox, 18, set to attend college at South Korean university
Angelina Jolie's first son has officially left home for college.
18-year-old Maddox Jolie-Pitt is all set to attend biochemistry classes at South Korea’s Yonsei University, a source told People.
“He got accepted to other universities but choose Yonsei,” the source claimed. “He has been studying the Korean language. He has lessons multiple times a week to prepare.”
Jolie, 44, will be accompanying her son on the trip to help him get started as his classes commence this month in the Seoul varsity, considered one of the best private universities in Korea.
“Mom is dropping him off in August,” the source added. “She is very proud. She will miss seeing him as much, but he’s ready.”
According to the source, while Maddox will be continents apart from his homeland, his new school is close to the family's Cambodian residence.
“He’s very close to his siblings and they all hope to visit,” the insider said of Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie previously told the outlet she was "nothing but proud" about Maddox's college plans.
“I look forward to all he will do,” she added.
The eldest of the Jolie-Pitt clan visited multiple universities with his mother back in November 2018 before finalizing on the South Korean school. Jolie was in the country on an official visit as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) Special Envoy when she took Maddox to a number of campuses in Seoul.
That said, the actress is also working on another project with her six kids, reportedly a global current affairs TV program for children in collaboration with the BBC.
“We enjoy reading the kids pullout of the New York Times and look at National Geographic,” says Jolie, “but as a parent, I felt there wasn’t that one vetted and reliable internationally-minded news program tailored for children that we could sit down and watch together each week. That is what I hope this will be for our family and other families.”
She is also preparing for the release of Disney’s 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil', a sequel to the blockbuster 2014 film and her first starring role in 4 years. She will be starring with Elle Fanning once again and the duo will be joined by Michelle Pfeiffer.
