LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Renowned actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie brought attention to the crisis in Gaza with her recent post on social media, once again standing up for what she believes in.

In a recent update on her Instagram account, Jolie, who has worked with refugees for 20 years, raised her voice against the "deliberate bombing" of "trapped" Gazans, saying that it is moving towards becoming a "mass grave." She called out world leaders for refusing to demand a "humanitarian ceasefire," condemning the lack of food, medicine and aid to Palestinians.

Actress Angelina Jolie speaks as (L-R) U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), National Coalition Against Domestic Violence President Ruth Glenn, and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) listen during a news conference at the U.S. Capitol February 9, 2022 in Washington, DC. A group of bipartisan U.S. senators held a news conference to announce a bipartisan modernized Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

‘The deliberate bombing of a trapped population’

Jolie characterized the area as a confined environment, calling it an "open-air prison." She drew attention to the dire situation unfolding, labeling it as an emerging "mass grave."

She shared a picture of the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, with the second slide of the post describing the image by saying, "Jabalia refugee camp is the largest of the Gaza Strip's eight refugee camps. After the 1948 War, refugees settled in the camp, most having fled from villages in southern Palestine."

The slide also said, "The camp covers an area of only 1.4 square kilometers. 116,011 Palestine Refugees are registered with UNRWA in Jabalia camp alone, 75 years since the 1948 conflict (UNRWA)."

The caption of her Instagram post read, "This is the deliberate bombing of a trapped population who have nowhere to flee. Gaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40% of those killed are innocent children."

She added, "Whole families are being murdered. While the world watches and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians - children, women, families - are being collectively punished and dehumanized, all while being deprived food, medicine and humanitarian aid against international law."

In the latter half of the post, Angelina Jolie asserted her belief that the responsibility for the lack of humanitarian aid lies squarely on the shoulders of world leaders.

She criticized them for indirectly endorsing the conflict by depriving the Palestinian population of vital resources, such as food and medicine.

In this handout provided by the UNHCR, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie presents education materials to both local Headteacher, Gul Rahman, and young schoolgirls in the village of Qala Gudar, Qarabagh District February 2011 some 28km outside Kabul, Afghanistan. Angelina Jolie was visiting the site where she will fund a new girls' primary school. Girls are only currently studying part of the year in the open air grounds of a local mosque and limited to Grade 4 due to the lack of a proper school building.

Jolie went on to accuse those hindering the UN Security Council from enforcing a humanitarian ceasefire, claiming that their actions make them "complicit" in the crimes unfolding in the region.

"By refusing to demand a humanitarian ceasefire and blocking the UN Security Council from imposing one on both parties, world leaders are complicit in these crimes", Jolie concluded.

In earlier instances, she openly conveyed her sorrow and frustration in response to attacks in Israel, standing in solidarity with the affected individuals and their families.

Importantly, she has consistently emphasized that acts of terror, no matter the context, cannot serve as justification for the tragic loss of innocent civilian lives in Gaza.
