The new dad also thanked the 'wonderful surrogate' who he was working with, and was proud that at the age of 50, he could still be a father
Congratulations are due for the baby daddy! Andy Cohen revealed on late Monday night that he has welcomed his first child, Benjamin Allen Cohen, through a post on Instagram. "WOW! This is my son, Benjamin Allen Cohen," Cohen said.
The first-time dad continued, "He is 9 lbs 2 ounces !! 20 inches !! Born at 6:35 pm, PT. He is named after my grandfather Ben Allen. I’m in love. And speechless. And eternally grateful to an incredible surrogate. And I’m a dad. Wow."
Cohen first announced the news of him becoming a father during a December episode of his Bravo talk show 'Watch What Happens Live'. He revealed the news of his new child in front of OG Real Housewives Vicki Gunvalson, Ramona Singer, NeNe Leakes, Kyle Richards and Teresa Giudice. While he was closing out the final live broadcast of 2019, Cohen said, "I am full of so much gratitude."
"Tonight, I want to share a little personal news of my own," Cohen continued. "To the viewers at home, I call you my friends at home because we are friends. You have supported me through almost 10 years of life… This has been an incredible, joyous journey with you all. I am grateful to be able to live my dream every day and grateful to you for coming along for the ride."
"Tonight, I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science — if all goes according to plan in about six weeks time, I’m going to become a father," Cohen said.
The popular TV host continued, "Family means everything to me and having one of my own is something that I have wanted in my heart for my entire life. Though it’s taken me longer than most to get there, I cannot wait for what I envision will be the most rewarding chapter yet."
Only a few days after the initial announcement, the host told his longtime friend Anderson Cooper that he was going to have a boy, according to Daily Mail. "It’s a boy and I got to tell you something, I cannot wait to meet this boy," Cohen said on New Year's Eve.
"When I was growing up and when we were growing up… I just never thought it would be possible, as a gay man, to grow up and have a family," he continued. The new dad also thanked the 'wonderful surrogate' who he was working with, and was proud that at the age of 50, he could still be a father.
