Andrew Cuomo compared to Steve Martin in 'The Jerk' after being spotted with blanket amid calls to resign
It looks like NY Governor Andrew Cuomo has been handed the baton by Bernie Sanders and his brown mittens that went viral during Joe Biden's inauguration. A photograph of the controversial politician that was clicked outside his New York home surfaced on the Internet almost sending everyone in a tizzy. Cuomo was holding a water bottle in one hand and a phone to his ear with his other in the photo where he was seen wrapped in a double-folded gray blanket.
People on Twitter almost immediately began drawing comparisons with various characters including Steve Martin in the movie 'The Jerk' and Linus van Pelt from the comic 'Peanuts'. Some users on the microblogging service were also of the opinion that the recent photo was an opportunity for the politician to garner sympathy from the public.

The 63-year-old governor has been battling accusations of sexual misconduct from multiple women. As of Friday, a seventh woman spoke out against him accusing him of sexual harassment. A group of 30 women was interviewed by the New York magazine on the same day, where they spoke about the alleged bullying they faced while working for Cuomo.
In the aftermath of these startling accusations against the governor, New York City representatives Jerry Nadler and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have urged him to step down from his position. In addition, 14 New York Democratic Congressional Reps. have asked Cuomo to resign. Democrats Chuck Schumer (Senate majority leader) and Kirsten Gillibrand (Senator) have joined in the voices calling for Cuomo's ouster from office after the allegations leveled against him.
A joint statement released on Friday afternoon read, "Confronting and overcoming the Covid crisis requires sure and steady leadership. We commend the brave actions of the individuals who have come forward with serious allegations of abuse and misconduct. Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign."
Their statement was followed up by House Intelligence Chairman and California Rep. Adam Schiff who said, "I don't think he can carry on," in a chat with Wolf Blitzer on CNN. In a conference call on the same say, Cuomo hit back at his colleagues, clarified he won't give into the pressures of "cancel culture", and definitely won't resign. "People know the difference between playing politics, bowing to cancel culture and the truth... let the review proceed. I am not going to resign. I was not elected by the politicians. I was elected by the people - part of this is that I am not part of the political club and you know what, I'm proud of it," he said.
