Speculations are rife within the Democratic orbit that the 56th governor of New York and Chair of the National Governors Association, Andrew Cuomo would be former vice president Joe Biden’s attorney general pick. It is also being said that Biden is “pushing” for Cuomo on the job, owing to their years of friendship. 

Sources close to the Democratic party have reportedly told Axios that Biden is strongly considering Cuomo for one of the most politically sensitive and high-profile jobs in the Biden administration. The role comes with several responsibilities, including an investigation into the Trump administration and managing the federal response to a number of prevailing issues such as police brutality, social unrest and systemic racism, among others. 

However, Cuomo’s team has reportedly denied his “interest in serving in a potential Biden Cabinet". Cuomo's senior adviser Richard Azzopardi told Axios, "100% he's made zero outreach, has had zero conversations about this and has made his desire to stay in New York clear as day and be governor as long as people want him.”

Who is Cuomo dating?

Cuomo met Biden through the former's late father Mario in 1980. The two of them grew closer during Cuomo’s service in Bill Clinton’s cabinet as secretary of Housing and Urban Development and while working for Hurricane Sandy reconstruction efforts. 

On the personal front, Cuomo is also known for his marriage history. He married Robert F Kennedy’s daughter Ethel Skakel Kennedy in 1990 and has three daughters with her. The marriage fell apart in 2003 and the duo filed for divorce in 2005. He later began dating Food Network host Sandra Lee in 2005 and the couple moved in together in 2011. They lived in Westchester County in New York for almost 8 years, before they called quits in 2019. 

Cuomo is a Roman Catholic, who according to The New York Times, is in favor of abortion rights and same-sex marriage. Meanwhile, New York Post has dubbed him as the “Luv Guv”, especially after women started crushing on the governor during his coronavirus press briefings, which reportedly became their “daily fix". According to reports, Cuomo is currently single. 

What Twitter is saying

Even though it hasn’t been confirmed if Cuomo would be Biden’s ultimate AG pick, the people on the Internet don’t seem convinced. With the rumors making rounds, Twitter users soon surfaced on the platform to give their opinion about Cuomo becoming the next AG.

One of them tweeted, "WTF... What’s worse than Joe Biden as President? Hillary Clinton On Secretary of Defense Andrew Cuomo as Attorney General." Another added, "I hope Biden isn't really going to consider Governor Andrew Cuomo for US Attorney General. He must not remember Cuomo will be quick to send him to a Nursing Home within weeks and then fill it with COVID patients." And one noted, "Andrew Cuomo is on Joe Biden's shortlist for Attorney General. #BlackLivesMatter doesn't stand a chance with Biden-Harris-Cuomo in top leadership."
