Is Anderson Cooper dating anyone? The truth behind Andy Cohen rumors and a look at his past relationships
Anderson Cooper dropped a big surprise when he revealed the news about his baby boy to the world. Named after Cooper's father Wyatt Cooper—who died when he was just 10 years old—the little one seems to be the apple of his eye.
Posting a picture of the baby, the handsome CNN town hall anchor shared a heartfelt confession, “As a gay kid, I never thought I'd have a child,” and added, “It's especially important to try to hold on to the moments of joy, happiness, even as we mourn the loss of loved ones, we're also blessed with new life and new love.”
Cooper also revealed that his son's middle name is Morgan. “It's a family name on my mom's side. I know my mom and dad liked the name Morgan because I recently found a list they made 52 years ago when they were trying to think of names for me,” he said. Now that Cooper has a baby in his life, it only makes us wonder who his partner could be.
Anderson Cooper and his sexuality
Cooper is currently the main anchor of the news show Anderson Cooper 360˚ and has also made appearances in films like 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and 'The 33'.
One of the most prominent openly gay journalists, Cooper came out of the closet in 2012 and said, “I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something—something that makes me uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid. This is distressing because it is simply not true. The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”
The anchor was in a rock-solid relationship with Benjamin Maisani for nine years and they even bought a historic estate in Connecticut named Rye House. Sadly, the two split in March 2018 but there were murmurs of a reconciliation. In a public statement two years back, Cooper said, “Benjamin and I separated as boyfriends some time ago. We are still family to each other, and love each other very much. We remain the best of friends, and will continue to share much of our lives together.”
So who is Cooper dating now?
While there is no official confirmation, there are a bunch of rumors flying around.
In 2018, he was linked to 34-year-old doctor Victor Lopez but the alleged romance soon fizzled out. Apparently, the young doctor was a fan, with his Instagram handle name Victoro360, quite similar to the title of Cooper's CNN show Anderson 360. Later, in February, he changed it to Victoro001. Since then, the silver fox has been reported to be single but friends want him to date his longtime friend, Andy Cohen.
The pair are said to have “amazing chemistry” and during a game of 'One, Two, AC' on 'Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen', the host revealed that he and Cooper once hooked up with the same guy and said they were “Eskimo brothers”.
Is there any truth to the rumors?
When asked if the two had ever considered the possibility of a relationship, Andy said it would be weird and Anderson called the scenario “very uncomfortable”. What's more, back in 2016 on 'Live With Kelly', he revealed, “Andy and I were first set up on a blind date, which never happened because we had a phone call and after two minutes I said, 'I’m not dating this guy,'” he said. “He broke my cardinal rule… he mentioned my mom within the first four sentences of meeting me.”
Anderson has seemingly been single for a long time. And now that he has a baby in his life, will he soon get a partner too? As rumors flew around about his love life, Cooper quietly got back with his ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani. “Anderson has reconciled with Ben,” an inside source told Us Weekly. “They very quietly got back together and are planning ahead. Ben is selling one of his clubs and cutting back on how much he does at night so he can spend more time at home with Anderson and the baby.”
Apparently, not many people knew about Cooper's decision to bring the baby into his life. “Very, very few people knew,” the source added. “He didn’t tell his team at CNN until just before the show.… Only a select few of his closest A-list pals — including Kelly Ripa and Andy Cohen — were sworn to secrecy.” Maisani was one of them. They may not be romantically involved but they are co-parenting Wyatt now. Will they get back together again? We'll have to wait and see.
Is Anderson Cooper planning to expand his family?
After taking on the role of a father, Cooper admitted he'd become “more tired than he'd ever been” and assured that he “wouldn't change it for the world”. Spilling more secrets from his personal life, he revealed he often wells up with tears after catching a glimpse of his baby boy.
“I cry at things I never cried at before,” he said. “And Benjamin, I've never seen him cry, but I couldn’t believe how weepy he gets with Wyatt. I find myself being overwhelmed with emotion, and it’s a lovely thing.” If a People report is to be believed, Cooper said he is open to expanding his family in the future! “I need to probably sleep a little bit more and clear my head, but I think it would be great, one day, to have a brother or sister for Wyatt.”
Earlier, he also said, “There's something about having a child that makes you feel connected to what is happening and you want to make sure that the world this child is growing up in is a better one. You suddenly worry much more about the future of all of us.”
