Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, according to Amy Schumer, was a ‘f–king bummer’ and all about ‘toxic masculinity.’ During a stand-up event in Vegas, Schumer claimed she didn't know what to say about the Oscars, and that she didn't have any jokes about it. Schumer added, "I don't even know what to say about the Oscars. I have no jokes about it. All I can say is that I don't know if you saw this, but Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Did that cross your newsfeed?"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “I was kind of feeling myself … and then all of a sudden Ali was making his way up,” referring to Smith's portrayal as boxer Muhammad Ali in the 2001 film.  During her first public appearance since hosting the Oscars at Las Vegas’ Mirage Theater as part of the Aces of Comedy series, Schumer added, “And it was just a f–king bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity.” Schumer's hosting itself was not without incident as she got flak for calling Kirsten Dunst a 'seat filler' at the event.

The event was ‘really upsetting,’ according to Schumer, who commended Rock for handling the situation ‘like a pro.’ She joked, explaining that her lawyer had advised her to cut a line about James Franco's sexual assault allegations and another about the fatal shooting of ‘Rust’ cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, “But I think the best way to comfort ourselves would be for me to say the Oscar jokes that I wasn’t allowed to say on TV.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schumer had planned to say, “‘Don’t Look Up’ is the name of a movie. more like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun.” Despite the fact that Saturday (April 2) was her first time speaking in front of a live audience about the infamous slap, Schumer, 40, has spoken about the incident since it occurred.

The star earlier said she was 'still triggered and traumatized', adding that Smith must be 'in so much pain' inside for him to behave the way he did. Smith slapped Rock for making a 'GI Jane 2' joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's baldness. Smith has subsequently apologized to Rock and resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is still investigating the incident and deciding whether or not the actor will face further punishment. Till then, many of his projects have also been placed on hold as a result of the incident.
