‘Twitch decided to squeeze streamers’

Over the past few days, there has been a notable trend of prominent streamers shifting their business to Kick from Twitch. This movement has been accompanied by a wave of criticism from aspiring streamers and YouTubers, raising concerns about Twitch's future. Among those voicing discontent was the renowned streamer Amouranth, who took to Twitter to accuse Twitch of squeezing content creators. She tweeted, "Twitch’s “sin” isn’t trying to squeeze their creators Their sin is making a business model that doesn’t succeed except maybe at YouTube scale— but live streaming is a much smaller TAM than pre-recorded video (esp when tiktok won the ultra-short form streams). Instead of," continuing the thread by writing, “Figuring out a novel/better way to tie into Amazon’s rapidly growing as business (possibly not in twitch’s control) twitch decided to squeeze streamers even tho they will never be able to achieve profitability that way. Grow TAM or.”

Amouranth then wrote, "create a MUCH better biz model/monetization engine. Taking incremental share of streamer earnings is ham fisted, and you can’t cut your way to profitability that way (math it, chasm too wide) I echo the view that if all the recent twitch actions are sacrificial lambs to," adding, "Delay prime sub removal…. Look out below." The tweets clearly show why Amouranth left Twitch, especially considering their faulty business model, which might have been affecting her revenue as a full-time streamer.

‘Agree with all of this 100%

After reading her opinion on Twitch, Amouranth's fans shared their thoughts on the topic. One wrote, “hot take... but I think one of their best options would be to make ads less intrusive and fix their delivery system, but require everyone to run ads (EVEN for subs) then push Twitch Turbo. I think with this, they'd be able to afford giving creators not just 70/30... but 80/20.” Another wrote, “Agree with all of this, 100%,” agreeing to her views. “If the Prime subs go, there's no longer any reason to stream on Twitch. Worst discoverability, worst rev splits. They might as well close the site,” stated one who's also unsure about the future of Twitch.
