'American Idol': Ex-Miss America Betty Maxwell dubbed 'saint' for helping Kelsie Dolin

Betty's kindness and patience towards Kelsie finally paid off, when the teenager wowed the judges during their duet performance

18-year-old Kelsie Dolin's journey on 'American Idol' can be best described as 'rocky'. Despite being blessed with one of the most unique vocals, the teenager's low self-confidence kept holding her back. However, the judges continued to see immense potential in her and continued to encourage her to push herself and get comfortable.

So when it was time for the duets round, they decided to pair her with ex-Miss America Betty Maxwell. The beauty queen was well aware that in order to ace the duets round, both Kelsie and she would have to bring in their A-game. But when she noticed that her partner was feeling extremely nervous and shy, Betty went out of her way to not only make Kelsie feel comfortable but also to bring out the best in her. From encouraging Kelsie to pick their performance song to coming up with various innovative strategies like incorporating dance into their performance, Betty was determined to get Kelsie out of her shell.

Betty's kindness and patience towards Kelsie finally paid off, when the teenager wowed the judges during their duet performance. The judges were pleasantly surprised to see Kelsie look visibly more confident and comfortable on stage. By the end of their performance, the judges were left in tears watching how far Kelsie had come in the competition. While the judges couldn't stop singing praises of Kelsie, fans however showered Betty with compliments for being such a great mentor to Kelsie.

A fan tweeted, "I’m sorry, Kelsie’s an okay singer, but Betty deserves all the credit for that performance. She had to do twice the work of anybody else, coaching her partner…and she sounded incredible. And yet, #AmericanIdol totally focused on Kelsie making it through." "Major props to Betty for going above and beyond helping Kelcie. Feel bad that Idol put that all on her to mentor another contestant when she had her own performance to worry about. #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan. "Though Betty Maxwell is going for her dreams, it was an INCREDIBLE gesture for her to help Kelsie come further out of her shell to help her go for her dreams. And they both sounded SO BEAUTIFULLY!!!!!!! @AmericanIdol #HollywoodWeek #AmericanIdol," echoed a fan.

Another fan shared, "Betty is a truly wonderful person #AmericanIdol." "I have to hand it to Betty, she is handling working with kelsie very well #americanidol," expressed a fan. "Betty is a saint! Kelsie is coming into her own... Glad they made it through for another day!" commented a fan on the duo's performance clip on YouTube.

Kelsie too acknowledged Betty's efforts in boosting her confidence and thanked her partner.
