While most times fans agree with the 'American Idol' judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie's decision on which contestant should be put through and who should be eliminated, sometimes fans are left puzzled by the judges' decisions as well. For instance, on the recently aired episode featuring the Hollywood Duets round, the judges decided to send Sam Moss to the next round while sending Haley Slaton home.

Both the pregnant ladies were teamed up together by the judges for the duet round. The duo named their team as Watermelon Smugglers, and gave a stunning performance to 'Dancing on my Own'. Even though both Sam and Haley's vocals were impeccable and complemented each others' perfectly, the judges felt that owing to the intense competition on the show, Haley wouldn't make the cut in the future rounds. So they decided to send her home. Fans were pretty bummed with the judges' decision as they felt that Haley was a better singer than Sam. But they also came up with some theories to explain why Haley could have been eliminated from the competition despite being a really good singer.

Some fans are convinced that Haley's pregnancy could be the reason behind her elimination. Since Haley was eight months pregnant at the time of filming for the show, fans believed that the showrunners might have not wanted for her to go into labour while being on the show, so they decided to send her home. A fan shared, "Haley should have stayed. But I guess they didn't want someone going into labour on stage #AmericanIdol." Another fan seconded with, "The truth they cut haley because they didnt want an incident ...... thought she was better of two #AmericanIdol." "Haley was much better than the tall girl!!!! I think they didn't want to have to "deal" with the birth of her baby during the production of the show. I think we're going to see her next season because she really was outstanding!," commented a fan on the duo's performance clip on YouTube.
