Amber Heard was heavily mocked on social media following her controversial remarks in a recent interview on NBC's 'Today' show after losing a defamation case against ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Heard, 36, sat down with NBC host Savannah Guthrie for an explosive interview that aired on the 'Today' show in two parts on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14 and 15, before a full-length special that is slated to release this Friday, June 17, on 'Dateline'. The embattled actress spoke out for the first time after the sensational trial, which centered around a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she claimed to be a domestic abuse survivor. While she had not named Depp, 59, in the article, his lawyers said the implications were obvious and damaged their client's career prospects.

Speaking to Guthrie, Heard insisted that she spoke "truth to power" throughout the trial. “The First Amendment protects speech ... it doesn’t protect lies that amount to defamation," the NBC host said, to which the actress responded, “Free speech does not protect you if you go into a crowded theatre and you scream ‘fire.’ We get the concept of free speech from the Greeks. My understanding of what that means is not just the freedom to speak, it’s a freedom to speak truth to power.”

Heard's eyebrow-raising remarks were ripped on social media, with some accusing the actress of hypocrisy.

"FAVORITE PART of the interview was #AmberHeard's truncated attempt at a disquisition on classical ancient Greek rhetorical & political theory. Notice the cut her off awkwardly, no doubt because what came out of her mouth after the edit was likely incomprehensible drivel," one tweeted.

"This is truly hilarious. She’s talking about the Ancient Greeks now? I’m not a fan of corporate media, but I promise @SavannahGuthrie and her team at @TODAYshow are throwing mad shade at #AmberHeard behind the scenes," another wrote.

"I am Greek and I can tell you that the origins of public speaking derives from Ancient Greece. Back then they referred to this as rhetoric. According to Aristotle, rhetoric is “the faculty of discovering all the available means of persuasion" In this case violated by #AmberHeard," a comment read.

"How can Amber Heard on one hand spout a bunch of pro 'freedom of speech from the greeks' crap and on the other shit all over people on the internet or exercising their right to freedom of speech just because the opinions aren’t in her favor," someone else offered

"Angry Amber Heard stans in the quote tweets is what I live for LMAO...it's true though, the 1st Amendment doesn't protect lies. Oh and the way she's trying to sound like an intellectual by mentioning the Greeks and free speech...as a Greek, that was cringe af," another chimed in.

During the explosive interview, Guthrie told Heard that "truth" was the very crux of the weeks-long trial between the actress and her ex-husband. Nonetheless, Heard maintained that the truth was precisely what she stuck to, and "paid the price" as a result. “And that’s all I spoke. I spoke it to power, and I paid the price," she said. In another teaser released by the network, Heard tells Guthrie that she stands by the allegations she made in her 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post despite being found guilty of defaming Depp. “To my dying day, [I] will stand by every word of my testimony," she stressed.
