Amber Heard admits Elon Musk was a rebound as she was still grieving Johnny Depp split in newly revealed texts
In messages dating back to 2016, Amber Heard confided in her then agent about her ongoing split with Johnny Depp as well as the heartbreak she suffered after her short-lived relationship with Tesla founder Elon Musk came to an end.
Heard was romantically linked to Musk back in 2016 after she had filed a restraining order against the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor - leading many to believe that she might have cheated on her former husband during their 2-year marriage. In a November 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Musk said he had split with Heard, although it sounded like he was not entirely over her yet.
"I just broke up with my girlfriend," Musk said at the time. "I was really in love, and it hurt bad. If I'm not in love, if I'm not with a long-term companion, I cannot be happy. Going to sleep alone kills me. It’s not like I don’t know what that feels like: Being in a big empty house, and the footsteps echoing through the hallway, no one there — and no one on the pillow next to you."
Around that time, the 'Aquaman' actress sent a series of texts to Christian Carino, her then agent and mutual friend with Depp, opening up about the apparent emotional agony she was in following her breakup with Musk. The texts were obtained recently by the Blast.
"Dealing with break up," Heard wrote. “I hate when things go public …. C, I’m so sad."
Instead of consoling her, a practical Carino replied saying that Heard was overreacting since even she knew that she was never in love with Musk and he was only her rebound. "You weren't in love with him and you told me a thousand times you were just filling space,” he wrote.
Heard does not deny this fact. “I know,” she said, adding “I wanted time to grieve and recover in my own time.”
Things took a philosophical turn with Heard writing, “I hate that yet again a man let's (sic) me fall on the spikes by myself...Meaning. They are mad at me for leaving them and put things like this out there...like that."
Carino, also known for being the ex-fiance of Lady Gaga, gave a distraught Heard a reality check by telling her to stop dating "uber" famous people. Heard snapped back, telling Carino to practice what he preached, adding, "I wasn't ready for another relationship or breakup to be out there but yet it is..."
It was reported that the duo first broke up because of their increasingly busy schedules. A few days later, TMZ snapped pictures of the two kissings after getting lunch in Los Angeles. A source close to Musk said then that they weren't back together but there was a possibility of them getting back.
They ended up spending "New Years together” as well as vacationing together in Chile at the end of December and enjoying dinner with friends, including Musk’s brother, Kimbal.
However, after briefly reuniting for a few months, the pair called it quits for the second time, in February 2018. “Elon decided it was time to end it and Amber agreed. They both still care deeply for each other but the timing wasn’t right,” a source close to the couple told People magazine.
