LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA: A Florida babysitter was detained last weekend for shoving a 4-year-old child inside a dryer and turning it on. Amber Chapman, 35, was charged with child abuse after the child informed police that "Miss Chapman" put him in a machine with towels and let him "go around and around," according to officials. The toddler suffered damage around his eyes, ears, shoulders, and lower back when he was transported to the emergency ward in February. The child informed the Lake County Sheriff's Office that Chapman, of Eustis, opened and closed the door throughout the tumbling cycle.

Doctors found his injuries to be consistent with the boy's assertions, according to a medical report on the case. Cops arrested Chapman this past weekend after gathering enough evidence to prosecute the case, and she was subsequently freed on a $15,000 bail. She is charged with severe child abuse, a first-degree crime. The motivation for the abuse was not disclosed by local law enforcement officers. The case is due back in court on May 2, 2022.

The Child Protection Team was unable to determine if being placed in the dryer caused the injuries, according to the medical report, but the severity of the injuries matched what the youngster informed physicians and deputies. It’s not been clear if Chapman had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

Drug-related and babysitting negligence crimes have increased in Florida. Many toddlers have died as a result of parents leaving their little children with babysitters. A year ago, 3-year-old Jameson Nance died in the custody of his babysitter Joshua Manns. Jameson's mother received a call from Manns informing her that her son had drowned in the bathtub. When the mother arrived at her house in West Melbourne, Florida, she discovered her kid dead in the tub and Manns was nowhere to be found, according to police.

Another 40-year-old woman was arrested in February 2022, for suffocating a 9-week-old baby she was babysitting after reportedly ingesting drugs, falling asleep, and smothering her.
