The rise in crime in New York has raised alarm bells all around. Authorities too have been on their toes regarding the rise in crime over the last few years. As compared to February 2021, the crime rate has spiked by 60% in 2022. Mayor Eric Adams has a plan in action to combat gun violence and crime in his city. The NYPD has tracked the increase in all major crime categories. It was revealed that there has been a 54% increase in robberies, 56% in larceny accidents, and 22% increase in rapes. Murders surged by 10%.
Mayor Adams said, "We've got to get it right. Two months in, we're executing our plan and we're going to defeat crime. I'm clear on that."
Professor Herrmann of John Jay College said, "The violent crime problem isn't spreading much. The huge increase in hate crimes and subway crimes are all really just an increase of more people being outside."
