'Empire' star Jussie Smollett hospitalized after possible racially-charged, homophobic hate crime
Smollett, who was in Chicago ahead of a concert he was set to perform, was reportedly going out for some food after landing, when he was attacked by two unidentified men
Jussie Smollett, best known as Jamal Lyon in the series ‘Empire’ was attacked early Tuesday morning, shortly after arriving in Chicago from New York. The 36-year-old openly gay actor was walking along when two unidentified offenders approached him and began yelling racial and homophobic slurs at him.
According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the men began to batter Smollett with their hands and “poured an unknown chemical substance” on him. They also reportedly put a rope around the actor’s neck before running away. After the incident, Smollett went to a hospital in the area, and is not said to be in 'good condition'.”
