There is no doubt that ‘All American’ has been one of the finest shows in recent years and no one was shocked when a spin-off series was announced to expand the universe. Titled ‘All American: Homecoming’, revolves around a young girl named Simone Hicks (Geffri Maya), who is set to attend the fictional HBCU Bringston University and trying to find her way into the Tennis team.

It also follows a guy named Damon (Peyton Alex Smith), an aspirant Baseball superstar who is known for his supreme talent. However, both characters are faced with difficulties as they try to tell the world that they are here to stay. So, the premiere episode of ‘All American: Homecoming’ sees Simone making her into the college and trying to adjust to her new life. She sees everyone is accompanied by their parents and they are helping their sons and daughters to set up their rooms.

'All American' Season 4 Episode 8 Recap: D'Angelo sacrifices career for Spencer as new era begins

Simone thought her aunt would help her in doing so, but she is going through a lot in her life as well. The scene showed us that everyone is really excited to be in college, but no one is ever prepared for the challenges that come after entering a new phase in their lives. Simone and Damon thought the same, but it did go that well because of their past decisions.

‘All American’ has always been known for developing the story slowly and steadily. That’s what we saw in the premiere episode of ‘Homecoming’ as well. The first half of the premiere was a bit slow as it was giving all the necessary information about the characters to the viewers. But the episode picked up steam when sports scenes started appearing on scenes.

However, their journey won’t be that easy because we have already seen that they both are “too” proud of their games and might have difficulties in working with the team. So, they would have to work on their communication skills to make an impression on their coaches and everyone else.

The premiere episode was a good start to the spin-off series and gave us a fresh perspective. It will be interesting to see how Simone navigates through her college life while proving that she deserves to be on the tennis team. Also, the relationship between Jordan and Simone will also be explored during the series, but Damon’s presence might make things a bit complicated for them.

‘All American: Homecoming’ returns to The CW with a new episode every Monday at 9 pm EST.
