SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: Following the finale of the hit fantasy K-drama ‘Alchemy of Souls’, we have been getting magazine photoshoots and interviews from cast members Lee Jae-wook and Oh My Girl’s Arin. However, the main female lead Jung So-min who stole everyone’s heart as the loveable Mu-deok has been silent. It had previously been announced that she would not be returning as the main lead in Season 2 and that she was being replaced by actress Go Yoon-jung.

Alchemy of Souls’ is a magical K-drama about soul-shifting and follows assassin Naksu who accidentally shifts her soul into priestess Jin Bu-yeon while escaping Songrim mages. Yoon-jung did a cameo as the original Naksu. Meanwhile, Jung So-min played Bu-yeon, a Naksu possessed Bu-yeon and the fake persona Mu-deok. Critics and fans commended her skills for portraying three characters effortlessly and wanted her to return in ‘Alchemy of Souls 2’. While the production did not confirm her return, two reports came in that So-min was not present for the filming of Season 2. However, fans are hopeful with the latest turn of events.

Fans hope for Jung So-min’s return

Following a K-drama finale, we often get magazines and brand deals for the actors as evident with even the second leads of ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’, ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘Our Blues’ landing deals. With several of the cast members of ‘Alchemy of Souls’ being interviewed and getting magazine covers except for Jung So-min, the female lead, fans wonder if she’s staying silent to keep her return a surprise. That’s not all as the drama database ‘MyDramaList’ has added Jung So-min to the cast of ‘Alchemy of Souls 2’ in the supporting role of Jin Bu-yeon. Her name was not there right till August 29.

The finale of ‘Alchemy of Souls’ part 1 has also left several cliffhangers that would be difficult to wrap up without Jung So-min’s return in season 2. We have Bu-yeon surfacing right when her mother, the leader of the Jin family tries to kill Mu-deok. Bu-yeon calls her ‘mother’ before disappearing into the ice stone. The leader also wants Mu-deok’s body alive as she suspects that it might indeed be of her lost daughter Bu-yeon.

Then in the last minute of the final episode, we see Mu-deok jumping into a lake after she runs wild and murders people. However, before she can sink to the bottom, two women jump in after her and bring her to the surface. Fans think that the women might be of the Jin family which can allow actress Jung So-min to return as Bu-yeon after Naksu returns to her original body played by Go Yoon-jung.

All 20 episodes of 'Alchemy of Souls' Part 1 is on Netflix.

‘I’m sure Somin will be there’

As always, fans were not silent. One tweeted, "I don't mind having go young jung as naksu again but Part 2 without somin means there will be no more jin buyeon, THE jin buyeon??? the most powerful priestess.” Another fan posted, “Buyeon is here 😭💗I'm so happy<333 See you soon Buyeon!” One fan commented, “Omg i checked mydramalist and look there’s jung somin 😭😭😭 #AlchemyOfSouls pls dont gibe us false hope.” Another said, “IM TOO ATTACHED TO HER I CAN’T LET HER GOOOO.” One fan added, “Im sure somin will be there in the few first eps as we didn’t know who & why they took buyeon’s body.”
