A TikTok mom and a certified swimming instructor, Nikki Scarnati, issued a warning to all parents about the dangers of buying blue bathing suits for children. In the viral video which has garnered more than 3.7 million views, Nikki shows off her toddler daughter swimming in a backyard pool while wearing blue, and soon social media users were stunned by the outcome.

"This is not a bathing suit that my daughter wears on a regular basis. I bought it on clearance specifically for this example for parents who wanted to learn," Nikki noted in the TikTok video. Within seconds users' jaws dropped after they were unable to locate Nikki's daughter as she was camouflaged in the water. Hence, the mother warns in the video to never buy blue bathing suits for children and advises only to purchase bright colors.

'Look how difficult it is to see her with that bathing suit'

Furthermore, Nikki explains the dangers of children wearing a blue swimsuit, saying it makes them more prone to danger if an accident were to happen. The mother used her daughter swimming in a blue suit as an illustration and said "this is in calm water, this is not with a whole bunch of other kids playing, and splashing around and having a good time," Nikki continued. She then compared the view to the moment her daughter was under the sunlight, as it is still very hard to spot the toddler. "Look how difficult it is to see her with that bathing suit on because it's the same colour as our environment," Nikki said. One should only opt for bright-colored clothing which can prevent drowning.

What is the best bathing suit color to prevent drowning?

When swimming one should choose colors variating from the water environment. Research conducted by Alive Solutions Inc tested 14 different colored swimsuits on a chart to determine which one is the safest in comparison to its settings and the results are shocking. In the pool test, orange and pink stood out the best, while blue, white, and grey were found to be barely visible. In the lake setting, only orange and yellow were visible, according to the test.

'I can barely see her!'

Nikki's viral video shocked internet users who claimed to be more cautious now. One TikTok user wrote, "That's crazy! I would have never even thought about it, wow," reported Daily Mail. Another added, "I would've never thought of this." A third admitted, "Wow! Good info." "I can barely see her. I also won't let my daughter go in or near the water without me," another said. Even a former lifeguard supported Nikki's safety information and said, "I'm a former lifeguard and this is absolutely right! Any shade of blue is difficult to see, and so is any pastel light colour in general. Another lifeguard seconded that and said, "Dark colours for pools, bright or light colour for open or murky waters!" "We use blue bathing suits for sprinkler time, bright colours for the pool!" read a comment.
