BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Lizzo has been a sensation among young Americans as they easily connect with her music. Now, with the announcement of the new music video for her fourth studio album ‘Special,’ the ‘Good as Hell’ singer gave them another reason to celebrate this New Year. Lizzo took to Instagram on Wednesday, February 1, and spoke about what the new song ‘Special’ signifies.

The music video starts with the Black woman in a superhero costume as she says "America loves a Black woman as superhero, but absolutely hates her as a human being." The 34-year-old continued, "The glorious superhero, you see her doing the regular life-saving, press, everyone loves her, and then she takes off her costume, it's a Black woman and just showing the juxtaposition of how she gets treated in the real world." Lizzo ended her Instagram post by saying that she should rather be appreciated as a person and not as a superhero, “The hope is that y'all see me for who I am, y'all appreciate me, and at the end, I hang up my superman outfit. I ain't saving the world anymore, I'm saving myself."

'I've been used to people judging me'

In the video, the ‘About Damn Time’ singer can be seen singing as she saves a number of strangers caught in dangerous situations. "Been the same since I've been driving slow on Bissonnet," and that "fame is pretty new, but I've been used to people judging me," are her lines as she uses her ‘superpowers’ and dresses up in her purple costume. Lizzo also posted the 'Special' music video on her Twitter handle and captioned it, "The #Special video is for anyone who has felt unseen, alone, disrespected. I see you."

Lizzo's fans are finding the video quite uplifting and highly-spirited as it has a personal significance to the singer who hails from Houston. "This is the first time I played my new music for my momma — I was nervous to post this! But just know: if the ones you love support you — THATS ALL U NEED. It's been a long journey YALL… but I think it's about that time," she wrote on Instagram.

'Redifining body-positive movement'

Lizzo is loved for her straight talks and one topic she doesn’t hold back on is ‘body-positivity.’ Many claims that she is here to redefine the entire movement, according to People. “It definitely comes with time,” the Grammy winner told US Weekly a couple of years back. “I wasn’t really given the opportunities or the privileges to feel like a sex symbol when I was growing up. I was a fat black girl in Houston and I didn’t see myself in magazines.”

Lizzo is a multiple award-winning singer who is looked up to, especially by 'Generation Z' throughout the world, and singing is one of the many reasons.
