'Again with the victimizing': Internet slams Selena Gomez for her decision to take a break from social media
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez announced to her 430 million followers that she is going to delete her Instagram account and take a break from social media.
'The Only Murders in the Building' star took to her IG stories on November 2, saying, "I'm taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I'm done. I do not support any of what's going on."
The singer-actress was criticized for her October 30 IG story that indirectly referred to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
Based on BBC reports, more than 9000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip and more than 1400 killed in Israel since the beginning of the conflict on October 7.
Selena Gomez is 'done' with Instagram
The 31-year-old singer voiced her disappointment and concern over the ongoing violence without directly mentioning the war in the previous story. Her story drew wide criticism as the singer did not mention any parties in the war.
On October 30, she wrote she has been taking a break from social media "because my heart breaks to see all the horror, hate, violence, and terror that's going on in the world."
"People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific. We need to protect ALL people, especially children, and stop the violence for good."
She deleted the story after severe backlash from social media users. Users claimed that Gomez is hypocritical as she often has direct opinions about other issues.
She was unwilling to speak about the Israel-Hamas war, which has created the most disastrous humanitarian situation in the region in decades.
The recent story was also deleted from her account quickly, and her Instagram page still remains active. She has not posted any feeds or stories after that. It remains to be seen whether the 'Good For You' singer will delete her account or simply stay off social media.
Social media slams Selena Gomez for 'attention seeking' behavior
Gomez's silence on the war and the deaths has irked people.
Internet does not accept her roundabout approach to the issue and has been mocking Gomez for not actually deleting her social media accounts after threatening to do so.
One user stated, "Again with the Victimizing imagine how tired we are! Girl just delete your entire social media atp!"
