Pete Navarro compares Melania Trump to Jackie Kennedy, Twitter loses its mind: 'Less Jackie O, more Tacky Ho'
After White House trade adviser Peter Navarro likened first lady Melania Trump to former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, his remarks stirred up a massive controversy on social media.
His remarks came while speaking to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell just before Melania was scheduled to speak prior to the second night of the 2020 Republican National Convention. “You know, tonight, maybe [I will] touch a little bit on what’s going to happen,” Navarro said. “I think it might be useful. I think Melania Trump will be introducing the new Rose Garden." He continued, "I find her to be the Jackie Kennedy of her time... the beauty, the elegance, the soft-spokenness. I think she’ll deliver a powerful message to the American people."
After his remarks were aired, the Twitterati heaped their ire on the comparison, especially since Melania's Rose Garden 'redesign' has been criticized for "ruining" Jackie Kennedy's original garden layout. One tweet commented on this saying, "Melania Trump is no Jackie Kennedy and never will be. She destroyed Jackie’s beautiful Rose Garden. Very sad that you feel the need to ramble on and on with lies while you are being interviewed. Why any legitimate news show puts you on is beyond me."

Another tweet, that racked up 2.7K "likes" said: "Peter Navarro said that Melania Trump is the Jackie Kennedy of our time. She became famous holding up an inflated whale, and then went on to do that for a living," posting a picture of Melania in a barely-there swimsuit, holding an inflated whale.

The tweet set of a chain thread of people taking their own potshots. A user commented: "I told my 82 year old Mom what he said and she smacked my face. Lol Then she said. “Don’t you ever compare that graffiti-on-her-jacket-wearing nut job to Jackie Kennedy or I’ll slap you, again” and posted a gif image of the late First Lady who was known for her elegance and fashion sense.

Others were succinct but ruthless in roasting Melania like this one: "Less Jackie O, more Tacky Ho"
Othe tweets compared Melania's past "actions" to the stellar reputation Jackie Kennedy enjoyed. "Jackie Kennedy was educated and as far as I know she didn't crib her speeches from prior first ladies or wear overcoats that said "I really don't care, do you?," said one tweet about the comparison.
Peter Navarro also called Melania the Jackie Kennedy of our time. Jackie Kennedy was educated and as far as I know she didn't crib her speeches from prior first ladies or wear overcoats that said "I really don't care, do you?" Others commiserated with interviewer Andrea Mitchell with one tweet saying, "OMG! Andrea Mitchell - don't know how you do it. When Navarro said he considers Melania Trump the Jackie Kennedy of our time, I thought I'd lose my mind."

While most tweets referenced her less that prestigious modelling career, some were creative about it. One tweet said: "Narvarro is talking about Jakki Kenny Dee, a 60's stripper who made blue films using this stage name. There is a current stripper & call girl who did some soft core porn under the name Melania Tramp. Wait, I'm being told my copy has a typo. Her name is Melania Tru-...never mind."

Others focused on her history plagiarism as the First Lady. "BREAKING: According to Peter Navarro@FLOTUS is going to dress like Jackie Kennedy for #PutinsGOPConvention while reading @KamalaHarris' speech," remarked one tweet sarcastically.

Melania's words, behaviour, fashion choices and now her Rose Garden design has drawn criticism and censure during her tenure as First Lady. From leaning a little to close to hug Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to wearing a graffiti jacket that was considered insensitive, to pictures from her past modelling career that her detractors love reposting, Melania has been no less of a controversial figure than her husband Donald Trump. Her speech at the 2020 RNC is also sure to be closely examined since she has a history of plagiarizing from more famous speeches like that of Michele Obama.
