Adele's estranged dad earns $65-a-day as Yodel driver years after bitter fallout
Multi-millionaire Adele’s estranged father has been spotted scraping a living as a delivery driver in the UK, according to a report by The Sun.
The 55-year-old Mark Evans, who has not spoken to his daughter for years after a bitter falling-out, earns £50 ($65.22) a day delivering packages for the company Yodel. The publication snapped the reformed alcoholic on his rounds near Cardiff on Wednesday.
The news comes shortly after the Grammy winner, whose worth is around £140million ($182m), was spotted at a New York recording studio, sparking rumors she is working on her fourth album.
Mark Evans left Adele’s mother Penny when the singer was three and was hardly there as she grew up. The 'Someone Like You' singer cut him out of her life in 2011 after he spoke publicly about their lives and suggested his absence was to blame for her rocky love life. She said at the time: "He’ll never hear from me again."
The publication reported a source saying: "He knows he’s made mistakes but he’d love to patch things up and get a bit of forgiveness. He’s not after her money or anything, he just wants to be a normal grandad and buy his grandson ice cream and stuff."
The source further said that he is "heartbroken. He hasn’t got a life really, he’s just existing. He used to be a plumber but switched to driving a few months ago."
Mark is said to have been living in a small rented house in Bridgend, South Wales and had previously admitted to being a "rotten father".
"I drank like that for three years. I was deeply ashamed at what I’d become and I knew the kindest thing I could do for Adele was to make sure she never saw me in that state. I made Oliver Reed look like a teetotaller."
He had tried to patch things up over the years but Adele ignored a plea from him in 2013 when he had surgery for bowel cancer.
Adele, who owns mansions in Sussex and London worth more than £10million, had son Angelo in 2012 with her husband, 44-year-old Simon Konecki. Last week she was pictured in New York partying with Jennifer Lawrence in gay bar Pieces.
