Outrage after Addison Rae named in ‘Top 10 Female Singers of All Time’ but NOT Madonna

Rae's fans were obviously thrilled to see her in the top 10 list, but critics were quick to slam the controversial aggregation

A ‘Top 10 Female Singers of All Time’ list released by Barstool Sports sparked an uproar after it featured TikTok star Addison Rae among other famous singers but did not include 'Queen of Pop' Madonna.

One cannot deny that Rae has come a long way from being a regular TikToker to walking the 2021 Met Gala red carpet.  However, netizens appeared to dismiss the assertion that she was talented enough to outrank some of the biggest female singers of all time on the viral list. Rae, who amassed over 81 million followers on TikTok after posting dancing and comedy videos, went on to become a pop sensation after releasing her debut single "Obsessed" in March. She even made her acting debut in 'He's All That' - a gender-swapped remake of the 1999 blockbuster released by Netflix in August 2021.

Rae's fans were obviously thrilled to see her in the top 10 list, but critics were quick to slam the controversial aggregation. Some cast doubts on the legitimacy of the viral list as it didn't include several industry greats such as Madonna, Christina Aguilera, or Taylor Swift. Barstool Sports, which created the list using "rankings generated from data gathered by the ULL," was also blasted for placing Mariah Carey on top, followed by Whitney Houston, JoJo, Lady Gaga, Arethra Franklin, Beyonce, Ashlee Simpson, Tina Turner, Adele, and Addison Rae.

Pop aficionados did not take too kindly to the list for obvious reasons and went on to share their own list of names of other iconic female singers that they felt deserved to be on it.

"I guess Celine Dion, Billie Holiday, Christina Aguilera, Madonna or heck Ella Fitzgerald got nothin’ on the pipes of Addison Rae and Ashlee Simpson. Step up your game, ladies!" actress Natasha Chandel tweeted.

"Addison Rae?.... Addison Rae? Over Celine Dion, Dolly Parton, Madonna, Etta James, Stevie Nicks, Barbara Streisand, Arian Grande...... Just to name a few off the top of my head....who came up with this list???" one Twitter user wrote.

"The fact you don’t have Stevie Nicks, Madonna, or Alicia Keys on here but you have the likes of Jojo, Ashlee Simpson, and Addison Rae makes this list trash!!!" another added.

"Ashlee Simpson? The same woman who couldn't lip sync on SNL? And wtf is Addison Rae? How y'all make a list without Dolly, Madonna, Missy Eliot, Aliyah, Céline Dion, Janis Joplin, Taylor Swift...gtfo out is this list from 2003?" a comment read.

"This list is so bad and hilarious... WTF! Y'all chose Ashlee over Jessica? Why's Lady Gaga, Ashlee, Addison Rae & JoJo doing there? Where's Celine Dion, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Ross..... Y'all included Adele but Rihanna isn't there?" someone else added.
