SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Adam Driver's mother-in-law and mother of his wife Joanne Tucker, Cynthia May, was allegedly part of an elite NYC cult. It was revealed that the cult has a history of alleged mental abuse, physical abuse, homophobia, racism, and child abuse. Meanwhile, the group was allegedly founded by 'Slaughterhouse Five' star Sharon Gans and her husband, playwright Alex Horn.

The report also claims that Scheinder Spencer married May in 2009, as suggested by Gans. The cult is still active and has an estimated 200 members on the East Coast. According to The Sun, she allegedly counseled her subjects in the cult about their sex lives, what they could and couldn't do for work, who they could marry, who they could cheat on, and whether or not they could divorce.

Adam Driver is married to Joanne Tucker. Tucker's mother Cynthia May is his mother-in-law. In the recent report by The Sun, the members of the group also claimed they were asked to pay a hefty amount of $400 to attend various classes by Gans and on the work of Russian philosophers who claimed hard labor and suffering was the way to self-improvement. One of the survivors of the cult, Don Raskopf, said, “We would pretty much work around the clock the whole weekend for 48 hours and I was probably working 100 hours a week. After about six months of that, I learned I had a psychotic break just from the stress.”

What are the allegations against Cynthia May?

Cynthia May instructed her subjects in the cult on various subjects. Meanwhile, Scheinder divorced her after 20 years of marriage and is a survivor of the cult claims, “I have my doubts if she’s still involved. She might be, but she was also cut out from Sharon’s will several years ago, so she may have been on the outs. And there are other things that make me think she’s not in it anymore." He also claimed that Joanne was "aware" of who Gans was, and she and her siblings "hated" Gans. Schneider also added, "[Driver and Tucker] have no involvement in it whatsoever. None. I know Adam and Joanne very well, they're my stepdaughter and son-in-law. They have no involvement in it, [but] I think Joanne knows about Sharon, you know, she knows about that. But they all have no involvement at all and they didn't like Sharon, the kids. They all hated her," he said.

How was Sharon Gans involved in Cynthia May's life?

Schneider claimed that he started dating May after Gans' request. However Gans always tried to take decisions for them. He claimed once Gans said, "I don’t like the idea of Cynthia getting pregnant, at her age it's potentially dangerous. The child could have down syndrome and you would have to put it up for adoption." Gans also suggested  he should have sex with his 19-year-old step-daughter Hannah and impregnate her. She said once, "No Spencer, what you can do is impregnate Hannah, she can carry the baby, and you and Beth can raise the baby as your own," Gans allegedly instructed. Of course. I’m sure Hannah would be happy to do this. She’s still young. She would do it for you." He further added, "Sharon was suggesting that I engage in incest to conceive a child."

Later, he said, "This child would be the grandchild of my wife, the child of my stepdaughter, and the niece or nephew of my other stepchildren. It was repugnant and I never considered it for a second. But I did overlook it. Not because I thought Sharon was demented but because I thought, in my compromised condition, that Sharon was a free spirit — uninhibited and unconstrained from all conventions — and that someone of her “hippie mindset” would of course recommend this. I gave her a pass. A big one."Schneider also said, "I honestly, like I didn't think it was a cult until the day after I left and then it just all tumbled down. Then it was like, 'Oh wow, that was a cult' - I'll never forget that feeling."
