Who was Warren Zevon?

Born in 1947, Zevon was a Jewish immigrant from Russia, whose original surname was Zivotovsky. He studied modern classical music with future conductor and musicologist Robert Craft. However, in 1966, he created duo music with Violet Santangelo and gained the spotlight. Warren's debut album, 'Wanted Dead Or Alive', was released in 1969. The album was partially produced by Kim Fowley, however, Kim left the project midway. The musician released his self-titled album 'Warren Zevon', on May 18, 1976, and Rolling Stone Record Guide claimed the album as a masterpiece.

In 1978, he released 'Excitable boy'. However, in 1980 he released 'Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School', but, it did not keep up with the previous track of success. The Envoy was released on July 16, 1982. Meanwhile, it did not receive commercial success but gained critics' acclamation. One of the key milestones in his career was when he played along with REM's side-project 'Hindu Love Gods'. The band played three concerts in Athens, Georgia. Later, he returned with another studio album, 'Sentimental Hygiene'. He then recorded and released a concept album, 'Transverse City'. Warren later released 'Learning To Flinch', in 1992. 'The Wind', which was his final album was released in 2003, as per Warren Zevon.com. The gifted musician died at the age of 56 on September 7, 2003, due to mesothelioma, a lung cancer from asbestos exposure.

'How has that not already happened?'

The Internet quickly reacted to the news. A user said, " I was surprised he wasn't already in! F**k yeah he belongs." "I actually cheered out loud when I read that he had been nominated. Very well deserved," wrote another. "I became a fan of Warren’s music because of the Hindu Love Gods album you did with him and reading the praise for him in various interviews. He 100% deserves to be in the Hall and it’s confounding that he isn’t. You, Peter, and Bill should be a part of the performance when he is," claimed a fan.

Another fan noted, "How has that not already happened? I'm sure Jack White would agree that Warren Zevon getting nominated same year as white stripes is outrageous." "He was a brilliant songwriter, composer and musician (guitar and keyboards). I was lucky enough to see two of his concerts--they were both amazing!," explained another. Another said, "I’ve heard this a few times this week. Absolutely deserves it!."

Meanwhile, a user explained, "It’s was past time #WarrenZevon got nominated to the @rockhall. Whatever you may think about the HoF, there is no doubt that he deserves this recognition, this, and more. Howl on, Werewolf." Another added, "Recognition way overdue. Sure hope the voting experts put the excitable boy into the #RRHOF. #WarrenZevon @rockhall." "Wasn’t even nominated until this year . He helped break the mold of the mellow LA singer/songwriter, adding a much needed element of danger," wrote another user.
