LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Aaron Carter's family is reportedly rejecting the previous claims that their son drowned in the bathtub and rather believe that he died from an overdose after a drug deal went wrong. While the cause of his death was never officially released, Carter's body was found in his bathtub after a 911 call was made about a “drowning.” Carter died at the age of 34 at his Lascater home on November 5.

According to TMZ, the ‘Crush On You’ singer’s fiancée Melanie Martin and mother Jane Carter were told by Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office that there was no water found in Carter’s lungs. This rules out the possibility of the singer dying from drowning in water. Moreover, his mother strongly believes that Carter died from a fatal drug overdose. Martin, who recently regained full custody of their 1-year-old son Prince, reportedly found text messages on her late fiancé’s phone with a conversation about owing an unidentified person $800 for an unknown substance, as per the NewYork Post.

She further claimed that Carter told the dealer that he did not need the drug anymore. However, the person responded that the money was still owed. When Carter asked if he was being threatened, the person did not continue the conversation. Last week, Martin submitted the text conversations between the two as evidence.

At the moment, Martin and Carter's mother are waiting on pending toxicology results which will determine the substances that were present in the late singer’s system during his death. Moreover, the family also wants law enforcement to investigate the alleged drug deal that took place on the night of his death. Carter’s close ones believe that he possibly met up with the unknown person prior to his death when he took a drug that could have been a significant cause of his death.

In late November 2022, Martin told PageSix, that Carter “didn’t know how to escape his demons” and struggled to maintain sobriety after his relapse. “There were too many people involved [at] the end of his life. They [were] the wrong people,” she said. “There would be times when he would be like ‘I can’t believe I did that,’ or ‘I don’t want to be involved with these people,’ and then he would easily get suckered in. It was just awful. It was this back and forth, back and forth.”
