LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Many people were stunned when Nicola Peltz's father exaggeratedly referred to her as a "world-famous actress" in a recent lawsuit filed against her wedding planners. Although there is no doubt that the 28-year-old has starred in a number of films over the years, Nicola herself would not be pleased to see how much screen time she has spent in them. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes did not find many movies she starred in worthy of even a single rating.

Nicola is probably better known for her high-profile romance and marriage to Brooklyn Beckham, and the fact that she is the daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz and former model Claudia Heffner. Although she has made a name for herself in the fashion industry, her father, who is fighting for a seat on Disney's board of directors, decided to overlook her contributions to the fashion world, calling her a "world-famous actress" instead.

"Nicola is a world-famous actress who has starred in blockbuster movies and television shows, including, among others, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel and The Last Airbender," the lawsuit read, according to Daily Mail.

Nicola Peltz's acting career

At the young age of 11, Nicola made her acting debut when she landed a small supporting role in the holiday flick 'Deck the Halls.' The film was directed by John Whitesell and was about a father obsessed with Christmas. The film received several scathing reviews and a shockingly low rating of 6 per cent from critics on the website Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to Nicola, the film also stars Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis and Kristin Chenoweth. Nicola played a supporting role named Mackenzie in the film, which grossed a total of $47.2 million at the box office. According to several reports, the film's total budget was $51 million, which means it only recouped 91.8 per cent of its total budget.

"Laden with false climaxes, the overstuffed plot leaves you exhausted well before the movie ends, and the amiable actors sleepwalk through their uninspired roles," a review from Time Out read. "Got any kids who've been naughty this year? Here's their present," the Empire Magazine wrote about the flick.

After her acting debut, she starred in a number of direct-to-DVD films or flicks that were heavily criticized by critics.

Harold: A 'one-note dead zone'
After two years, Nicola landed her next role in 2008, that of a girl named Becki in the comedy 'Harold.' The film was about a teenager who goes bald early and acts like an old man, and featured Spencer Breslin, Cuba Gooding Jr, Nikki Blonsky, Ally Sheedy and Stella Maeve. Nicola barely made an appearance in the film, which grossed only $13,000 at the box office due to its limited theatrical release. The film received 31 percent from critics and 41 percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but critics called it "terminally lame" and "unfunny."

"Harold is the type of one-note dead zone ideally suited for a bathroom break while sitting home on a Saturday night, alone and semi-drunk, in front of the television," the New York Times wrote. "Confidently struts along, seemingly unaware of its lackluster script and distinct lack of professionalism," FilmCritic.com said.

'Avatar - The Last Airbender' and 'Transformers' series

Nicola's two biggest roles were in Nickelodeon's live-action film 'Avatar - The Last Airbender,' in which she played the waterbender Katara, and in the fourth installment of the 'Transformers' series, in which she was the daughter of the main character. Both films were box office hits, but were heavily criticized by the media, who called them an "abomination of cinema" and a film that was "all hype and no hope."

Nicola was cast in 2010 for the role of Katara in the live-action film 'Avatar - The Last Airbender,' the biggest role of her career. The film grossed $319 million at the box office and became Nickelodeon's fourth highest grossing film. After her role in 2010, Nicola starred as Renee Kyte in the thriller 'Eye of the Hurricane' (2012), directed by Jesse Wolfe. It also starred Melanie Lynskey, Campbell Scott, Colin Ford and Brian Doyle-Murray. The film was apparently never released in theaters and was released straight to DVD and also has no ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nicola's first success as an actress

Nicola played the role of Bradley Martin in the first two seasons of the A&E series 'Bates Motel.' It starred Vera Farmigo, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot and Olivia Cooke. The series ran for a total of five seasons before being canceled in 2013. It was one of the few roles she played that received positive reviews from critics. The series was a great success and even earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and three People's Choice Awards. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a rating of 93 per cent among critics and 91 per cent among viewers.

One critic from Collider described it as a "surprise and delight" to watch, while someone from Empire Magazine said it was "surprisingly compelling." Nicola appeared in the fourth flick of the Transformers series, entitled Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014. The movie grossed a whopping $1.1 billion at the box office, earning it the spot as the most successful movie of 2014 but again, much to her disappointment it was quickly slammed by critics and audiences alike.

7 Raspberry Awards nominations

The film was nominated for seven awards at this year's Raspberry Awards, a ceremony honoring the industry's worst films, and has a 17 per cent rating from critics and 50 per cent from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

That same year, Nicola starred in the film 'Affluenza,' directed by Kevin Asch. The film also starred Ben Rosenfield, Gregg Sulkin and Grand Gustin. Nothing is known about the box office results of the film, as it had a limited release. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a low score with both critics and audiences - 20 per cent and 22 per cent, respectively.

Nicola then joined the cast of the 2016 film 'Youth in Oregon,' in which she played Annie Gleason, the daughter of the main character. It was directed by Joel David Moore and starred Frank Langella, Billy Crudup and Christina Appelgate. The film was released straight to DVD and reportedly grossed about $33,000. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received a 45 per cent critic rating and a 47 per cent audience rating.

In 2018, Nicola starred in the sci-fi film 'Our House,' directed by Anthony Scott Burns. This film was also released straight to DVD and reportedly grossed $22,000. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 63 per cent rating from critics and 28 per cent from audiences.
