SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA: A dashcam footage caught a chilling moment when a toddler nearly escaped death after an SUV failed to stop before the Crosswalk and drove straight away. The little girl is recovering after the terrifying incident unfolded on a street in California while her parent and sibling witnessed the scene just feet behind on the street.

The shocking incident took place on September 14, when the father and her children were walking on the crosswalk in San Mateo, the child was seen scooting across the pedestrian crosswalk when a ruthless driver almost hit the girl and she took off without even bothering to aid. Another driver had stopped for the family to cross while the dashcam was rolling captured the scary incident and quickly ran to help the father. Fortunately, the girl was unhurt.

Jison Hong who had stopped her car after the blinking lights that indicate pedestrians are attempting to cross the street with KGO about the accident says the girl could've been "seriously injured" and says she her heart pounds every time she thinks about it. "If it had been, you know, a few seconds later she could've gotten seriously injured,' Hong described. "Still, my heart kinda pounds every time I kinda think back to that moment." Law enforcement officials told ABC7 reporters that the car did eventually return to the scene and that the driver spoke with officers about the incident. Authorities have not released details of the driver's name or any potential charges that are filed against the person.

The family of the child also spoke to KGO that the toddler is doing well but that the family is still shaken up. The girl was not seriously injured in the accident. The problem however is not new to the residents in the locality and said they have been working for years to make their streets and crosswalks safer for pedestrians. "We've been writing emails, we've been speaking at city council meetings,' said resident and nearby HOA president Max Partl. "I think now, this video finally triggered some actual real action," reports Mail Online. The police told a local news outlet that they've responded to the concerns and have added additional traffic patrol vehicles in the locality.
