The TV series 'Game of Thrones' is one of the most successul, big budget, high fantasy shows ever made. The HBO cult hit captured the hearts and minds of viewers worldwide with its intricate plotlines and unforgettable characters. While many of the actors became household names through their roles on the show, life off-screen had its own set of challenges. In recent years, several 'Game of Thrones' stars have faced personal tragedies that have tested their resilience. 

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner, who starred as Sansa Stark in the series, is currently in the process of divorcing her husband, Joe Jonas, after four years of marriage. He stated in the paperwork that their relationship is "irretrievably broken." The couple has been experiencing marital problems in their marriage for at least six months before the divorce filing.

Maisie Williams

Maisie Williams, known for her iconic portrayal of Arya Stark, shared in February that she had parted ways with her boyfriend Reuben Selby. The actress made the announcement via her social media, stating, "'The end of an era. Reuben and I have decided to end our relationship. Since we met 5 years ago, our connection always extended deeply into our shared, and separate, creative careers… and it will continue to do so."

Kit Harington

Kit Harington gained global recognition for his portrayal of Jon Snow in the hit series. However, once the show ended in 2019, he faced challenging times, grappling with both alcoholism and depression. The actor said he "went through some pretty horrible stuff" adding now he is "very happy" and "content," as per WION.

Jason Mamoa

Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo, ended his four-year marriage to Lisa Bonet in January 2022. The couple's love story traces back to 2004 when they were initially introduced by mutual friends during a jazz club performance. The actors announced their decision to separate through a joint statement posted on Jason's Instagram account that said, "The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become."

Emilia Clarke

She underwent multiple surgeries and grueling recovery stints. She bravely went public with her health condition, turning into a powerful advocate for brain injury awareness.

Diana Rigg

Dame Diana Rigg, who played Olenna Tyrell, died on September 2020 at the age of 82, following a brief struggle with cancer. The official Twitter account of 'Game of Thrones', paid tribute to her memory stating, "Be a dragon. The realm will always remember Diana Rigg."

BJ Hogg

BJ Hogg, who played Addam Marbrand in the first series of the show, died at the age of 65 in May 2020. The Northern Ireland native was best known for his role in the comedy series 'Give My Head Peace.' The show's comedy team said in a statement, "BJ is part of the Give My Head Peace family. He was a fine actor, great colleague and a true friend. Our thoughts are with his wife Elish, son Nathan, and daughter Abigail at this time."

Darren Kent, born in Essex and known for his role as the Goatherd from Slavers Bay in 'Game of Thrones'. He faced significant challenges early in his career. These challenges included battling osteoporosis, arthritis, and an exceedingly rare skin disorder. After his passing in 2020, the actor received numerous tributes from friends and family.
