75 Hard Challenge: What are the rules for TikTok weight loss trend? Here's how 'safe' it is
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On beaming social media platform TikTok, a 75-day diet-and-exercise regime is going viral. The creators have been documenting the challenge as they complete it day by day. The Tiktok challenge is called ’75 Hard’ and the hashtag #75Hard currently has gained over 1 billion views on the platform.
What exactly is the '75 Hard' challenge?
Andy Frisella, the CEO of the dietary supplement business 1st Phorm International, created the challenge. On his podcast, 'Real AF', in March 2019, Frisella, who is not a licenced clinical therapist, certified trainer, or dietitian, introduced the idea of the '75 Hard' challenge and suggested it as a way to improve your life and lose weight. In the episode notes, he stated, "I've spent more than 20 years learning how to master mental toughness and I'm putting what I've learned into a program, I call 75 Hard."

Is the '75 Hard' challenge safe?
The '75 Hard' challenge has come under a scrutiny. The challenge is completely based on the extremes. It maybe easy for some and impossible for others. While some participants say they've gained an advantage from it, others say the trend promotes "diet culture" and makes people feel insecure about the way they have to complete the challenge for the sake of just showing off the trend.
Albert R Matheny, certified strength and conditioning specialist and owner of the SoHo strength lab in New York City said, "The workout plan is so nonspecific that you’re at great risk for injury. And for a lot of people, working out twice a day is too much too fast." Therefore, it’s better to get a physical from your doctor and an assessment from an actual certified personal trainer before hyping such trends.

Whilst, someone slammed the challenge saying, "The 75 hard challenge actually sounds terrible." Yet another person chimed in and tweeted, "WARNING: TikTok '75 Hard' Fitness Challenge Potentially Dangerous." In addition, a user also posted a picture of his looks of "Day 1 vs Day 73."
