Bracey Renee Byrd: Stepmother who tried to CASTRATE her 5-year-old adopted son, arrested for attempted murder
WILSON, NORTH CAROLINA: Bracey Renee Byrd, a 33-year-old woman from Wilson, North Carolina, was arrested on September 30 for trying to castrate a five-year-old child. According to the reports, the child is her adopted stepson, and the woman is now facing several charges for her crime, including attempted murder. The investigation began after the Wilson County Sheriff's Office received a report from the Wilson County Department of Social Services on July 29 about a case of possible child abuse.
Bracey Renee Byrd who lives at 919 Raleigh Rd. in Wilson is facing charges including a count of malicious castration, 1st-degree kidnapping, and three counts of felony child abuse with serious injury, attempted murder, felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, and with physical injury and is currently in jail on a $2 million bond. The woman had kidnapped her stepson before the attempted castration.

The Wilson Medical Center emergency department reported the case after the child was brought in with multiple bruises all across his body including his face, arms, head, upper and lower legs, back, and genital area. According to the county's Department of Social Services, the child was suffering from third-degree burns and the injuries did not seem to be self-inflicted. Some of the injuries did not seem recent and were in the process of healing. As per the statements of the cops, the case was described as "horrific."
The burns suffered by five-year-old were so severe, that he had to be moved to the University of North Carolina (UNC) Burn Center. Bracey's husband left behind three children after he died on September 8, 2022, out of whom two were adopted in 2019. The hospital has not released information about the age or name of the victim to protect him. Until the case is further processed, no more details will be released, as per the Sheriff.
According to the laws in Carolina, malicious castration is considered a criminal offense when it is done with an intention of maiming another person's genitalia. As per the statute, "If any person, of malice aforethought, shall unlawfully castrate any other person, or cut off, maim or disfigure any of the privy members of any person, with intent to murder, maim, disfigure, disable or render impotent such person, the person so offending shall be punished as a Class C felon."
