A young Chinese boy has grabbed hearts online after he stepped in to help his disabled mother. Pomelo is just two years old but he became a parent to his mother, Wang, who suffers from cerebral palsy. At the incredibly young age, little Pomelo is seen taking charge of house chores in a bid to make life easier for Wang.

The young child assists his mother in feeding herself, holds the blow dryer as she dries her hair, walks down a flight of stairs with her, and even picks up shoes for her. Also, he is habituated to performing house chores such as cooking, setting the table, and even hanging clothes to dry. Pomelo completes all these tasks without any protest and has been fairly independent for a while. Wang is pleased to say that her son is very intelligent, seeing how he remembers the things she says and warns her to be careful in certain situations, according to Amomama.

Pomelo’s devotion to his mother

Wang once stumbled while trying to give Pomelo a milk bottle and explained that the floor was slippery when her son questioned why she fell. Since then, Pomelo has made sure his mom is extra careful while stepping on slippery surfaces. He makes sure not to give her a hard time by helping with the chores and staying out of trouble as much as possible.

Wang sees Pomelo as the biggest blessing in her life. The mother never had an easy life as her family always disapproved of her marriage to Pomelo’s father, who also suffers from cerebral palsy. However, their marriage was filled with happiness after they welcomed Pomelo. While many question Wang's decision to have a child despite her health issues, the mother insists she wouldn't have it any other way.

'Disabled people are people too'

Wang said because of her perseverance, she had the right to fight for the kind of life she desired. “I'm confident that I can bring up my son. Disabled people are people too. Where there's life, there's a way," she told Good Morning China Post. However, the mother admitted that "sometimes, I feel sorry for Pomelo" as he has to shoulder so many tough responsibilities at such a young age. She continued, "My husband and I work very hard to give our son the better future he has always deserved."

After Pomelo and Wang’s story garnered social media attention, many showed support for their happy little family. "I'm sure their child will have a higher degree of empathy and compassion than a normal child. The world certainly could use more of that," one viewer said. Another supported them, writing, "This little boy will be so empathetic and capable of caring for others, so no, these parents are not selfish, they have gifted the world with a humanitarian extraordinaire."
