QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA: Steve Irwin's daughter and Australian conservationist Bindi Irwin, faced backlash online over her response to a call for help involving a celebrity emu in the US.

Emmanuel the emu is suffering from avian influenza, a virus that has reportedly already killed 99 percent of the other birds in Knuckle Bump Farms in Florida, where she lives. The bird's owner, Taylor Blake, reached out to Bindi on Twitter, seeking help for what she called a "massive tragedy." The conservationist responded by saying that while Australia Zoo -- which is run by the Irwins -- has treated more than 100,000 animals, it had "never treated an emu with this particular disease."

Bindi wrote, "We will need to rely on our fellow animal experts with more experience with this avian flu." The 24-year-old daughter of legendary zookeeper Steve Irwin signed off by saying, “Sending love and light your way from our entire family."

Bindi's response to Taylor was slammed by many, who said the well-known family could have been able to do something to help the situation.

"What a pathetic, useless reply," one tweeted. "Zero effort to help when you are in a supposedly unique position to use your influence and contacts to actually help her. Thoughts and prayers are cheap. You are unimpressive and that’s being polite." "Thoughts and prayers are nice, but is there not someone you could recommend, given your family has been in this field for years?" another wondered.

"So you don’t know of anyone in your network who could help? One would assume it wouldn’t be hard for you to ask around or spread the word in the hopes someone with the right experience comes forward, rather than writing this form letter response pretending you care," someone else added.

“Our hearts are with you and we appreciate that you care so deeply and have such compassion for darling Emmanuel,” the famous conservationist said. “We believe that all of us need to have love for each and every individual animal. We hope that someone who has greater experience in this area can be of assistance.”

While some felt the statement was inadequate, others, including Taylor herself, were grateful for the concern she showed in her response. "Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, Bindi Your response alone means more than you know. Please send my love to your family!" Taylor wrote.

Some noted that the response fairly addressed the fact that the zoo's services couldn't help with Emmanuel's predicament. “They are being highly honest about what their services can offer... no bullshit... Emmanuel doesn’t need bullshit,” one Irwin supporter wrote, adding, “I feel quietly certain that behind the scenes they are helping resource the right specialists for Emmanuel. Quiet achievers."

“Such a kindhearted reply. Another reason to love the Irwin Family. Sending love to Emmanuel and his people,” another chimed in.

Taylor has continued sharing updates on Emmanuel, documenting his journey that hopefully ends in a full recovery. “He is a fighter and I wholeheartedly believe he is going to make a full recovery," she wrote.
