Netflix's depiction of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer's atrocities has been a big success with millions of subscribers having already watched the series, making it one of the most-watched shows on the platform. However, 'Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story' has also caused major controversy. The relatives of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims have claimed that Netflix portrayed a sympathetic image of the serial killer. Now, web sleuths on Reddit are coming out to defend the serial killer.

One person wrote on Reddit, “I feel attracted to Jeffrey Dahmer.” “Actually cannibalism could be the most ethical way to eat meat since people can consent. (I know Dahmer victims didn't consent) But hypothetical if a person concents to be eaten in the right context. Do u think is still wrong?” someone argued. “Why is so different eating animals or humans? Both actually are animals,” yet another user remarked.

'He’s monstrously human': 'Jeffrey Dahmer Story' isn't 'sympathetic' to serial killer, co-creator claims

Several others, however, argued against the sentiment, as one person wrote, “Let us know when 1 of your loved once dies and we'll be making minced meat out of the bitch and serve them at the funeral. See if you have the stomach to gobble up aunt Sarah”.

“The thing is dahmer did have relationships of some sort with these people . Also eating your own kind is rare even in the animal kingdom and mostly happens when food is scarce. So unless you are starving why would you eat a fellow human?” another added.

“Neither do I. As far as I was aware like many Predators Dahmer chose his prey because they in all likelihood wouldn't be looked for as hard by the police, not because he hated them. He was a sick lonley man,” yet another user remarked. Dahmer killed seventeen boys and men between 1978 and 1991. The crimes involved cannibalism, necrophilia, and the preservation of body parts. He was sentenced to sixteen consecutive life terms in prison before being bludgeoned to death in 1994 at 34. Earlier, the show's co-creator Ian Brennan had dismissed claims that it was at all sympathetic to Jeffrey Dahmer.

Brennan gave an alternative viewpoint on Page Six, saying, “I think we show a human being. He’s monstrously human and he’s monstrously monstrous and that’s what we wanted to sort of unpack… We tried to show an objective portrait as possible. We did our homework.” “It’s interesting when horrific stories like that resonate with people. I think it’s a way for people to approach scary things about themselves, watch it (being) portrayed on the screen,” he added.
