LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The highly anticipated finale episode of FX's 'Shōgun' is just around the corner, with fans waiting for a thrilling battle to determine who will govern feudal Japan.

Created by the dynamic duo of Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the 10-episode series has earned a cult following due to its intriguing storyline and powerful performances.

The plot revolves around an Englishman, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who becomes engaged with the cunning Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) in a scheme to acquire complete control of Japan.

What happened in 'Shōgun' Episode 9?

The ninth episode of the series included the tragic death of Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), an integral charcater who always wanted to die.

The majority of the episode concentrated on Mariko, as Toranaga eventually revealed his great plans for her when she was sent to negotiate the release of captives held by Ishido Kazunari (Takehiro Hira).

Mariko was eventually killed in a devastating and shocking sequence, creating a void for Blackthrone that would be impossible to fill.

Furthermore, the scheming Lord Kashigi Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano) finally betrayed Toranaga and chose to side with Ishido, an event that had long been predicted.

What can we expect in the 'Shōgun' finale episode?

The last episode will undoubtedly act as the culmination of the series' nine episodes of development.

So, expect more painful deaths, betrayals, and, of course, an answer to the question of who will eventually govern Japan.

Toranaga's character is loosely modelled on Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Tokugawa Shogun of Japan; thus, it's safe to predict he'll win, but at what cost?

With Toranaga victorious in the war, Yabushige's fate is unlikely to be as rosy as his followers had hoped, as he would most certainly be ordered to commit suicide.

In addition, the fate of several supporting characters, such as Toda Buntaro (Shinnosuke Abe) and Kashigi Omi (Hiroto Kanai), will be revealed in the following episode.
