'Work in Progress' Season 1 Episode 4 will see Abby navigate public restrooms as a 'gender non-conforming queer d*ke'
Episode three of Showtime’s queer comedy ‘Work in Progress’ addressed Abby McEnany’s anxieties about her body image, sex and her relationship with Chris (Theo Germaine).
While her issues, of course, would need more time to be sorted out, one can rest easy knowing that Abby is addressing them, despite being the confrontation equivalent of an armadillo.
So what can we expect from episode four?
According to the Showtime website, the episode titled ‘161, 153, 137, 122, 106, 104, 102 (We’re still counting almonds)’ see Abby navigate “public restrooms as a gender non-conforming queer d*ke with OCD,” and pinball “against a cross-section of humanity and perspectives at a Dolly Parton concert.”
In a promotional preview of the episode, we see Abby (with multiple bandages over one eye) getting teased by her friends about having sex.
In the previous episode, Abby and Chris had sex for the first time. Abby, not wanting to be seen naked because of her body-image issues, insisted they keep the lights off. The resultant affair was one that was somewhat awkward -- with a lot of furniture falling here and there and an eye injury.
The promo also sees Abby making fun of her friend Campbell’s (Celeste Pechous’) “ridiculous” cowgirl costume, presumably, in preparation for country singer Dolly Parton’s concert. Campbell defends her clothes, claiming she is a “picnic b*tch”.
The episode will also see Abby trying to deal with an annoying colleague who, after hearing Abby talk about her obsessive-compulsive disorder, also claims she has the same (when she clearly doesn’t) issue. And finally, we see Abby receive weird stares from other women in the bathroom because of what she looks like and how she dresses.
The episode’s title is indicative of Abby’s ongoing struggles with suicidal thoughts -- in episode one, she told her therapist that she would wait for her 180 almonds to be over (each almond representing one day). At the end of the 180 days, if she did not feel better, she planned to end her life.
‘Work In Progress’ Season 1 airs every Sunday, 11 pm, only on Showtime.
