‘Women in Blue' Episode 2 Takeaway: Real killer may be hiding in plain sight
Contains spoilers for 'Women in Blue' Episode 2
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO: The first two episodes of 'Women in Blue' have officially premiered on Apple TV+. The series centers around a chilling case where a serial killer is targeting young women.
As the body count rises, the Mexican police force finds itself grappling with the escalating crisis. Amid the fear caused by the killer in the Mexican capital, the government, aiming to divert media attention from the failing police force, launches a recruitment campaign for female officers.
Maria (Bárbara Mori), Valentina (Natalia Téllez), Gabina (Amorita Rasgado), and Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana), along with other women, join the first female police force in Mexico. However, things take a drastic turn when the serial killer kills another woman in Episode 2.
Who is the Undresser?
A serial killer is wreaking havoc, targeting women and leaving their bodies in shocking and grotesque displays. The victims are found tied up and undressed in public places, causing widespread fear and outrage.
The media dubs him 'The Undresser' due to the distinctive and horrifying way in which he leaves his victims. In 'Women in Blue' Episode 2, he kills a woman named Paola.
While searching for a missing dog, Maria discovers Paola's dead body in a park. The police arrive, take footprints, and arrest a man named Margarito Hidalgo Flores, who is a gardener.
He is mentally unstable, and the male officers force him to sign a confession admitting to the crimes of killing other young women. Later on, Margarito is found dead in his cell, and the authorities claim he killed himself out of guilt for committing the crimes.
However, it appears the man may not be the Undresser. At the end of Episode 2, viewers see a man manipulating a women's doll with dismembered hands while watching a news report about the murders.
This unsettling scene suggests there might be more to the story and raises questions about the real culprit behind the crimes.
The Mexican police are struggling to adequately address the threat posed by the serial killer, with their efforts falling short of effectively capturing the real perpetrator.
The male officers, in particular, are dismissive of the concerns and pleas raised by the female officers involved in the case.
It seems the killer may be someone within the Mexican police force, which explains why the male officers are not taking adequate action. They appear to be deliberately arresting the wrong person to maintain a favorable public image.
There is a strong possibility that Octavio Romandia (Miguel Rodarte) might be aware of the real culprit behind the murders. This suspicion arises from his reaction when Maria interrogated Paola's sister.
Octavio's scolding of Maria and his apparent attempt to shut down the investigation could indicate that he has a vested interest in hiding the truth.
Will Maria find the real killer?
It appears that Maria will take it upon herself to investigate the case, given that the male officers are disregarding her concerns. She believes that Margarito, the gardener, was not the true culprit.
Maria might question how someone like Margarito with limited financial means could have access to the high-end car that Paola was seen leaving in.
Maria may choose to conduct her own investigation by speaking with the families of the victims. In 'Women in Blue' Episode 2, she is seen collecting newspaper reports about the killer, which suggests that she may piece together crucial details that could reveal the true identity of the perpetrator. Her investigation might lead her to uncover inconsistencies and overlooked evidence.
Her quest for the truth may provide her with crucial clues to uncover the real culprit, who could potentially be a member of the Mexican police team. She might discover that the killer is someone within the very force tasked with solving the case.
She is likely to face significant backlash from the male members of the police team.
