NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A woman has rescued an abandoned Pit Bull who was left tied up in a New York City subway station. Heather Hamm, 25, got to know about the pup after spotting her in an Instagram account that helps unwanted belongings find a new home. She immediately took action after seeing a social media plea shared on the page concerning the dog.

The post shared by @nycfreeatthecurb, an Instagram page that tends to share info about free furniture around the city, featured a photo of a pit bull mix tied to the handrail of the Fulton Street subway station. "Emergency! Needs a rescue! Someone just tied this dog to a pole at a subway stop!!! Fulton Street subway station where the 4/5 runs! In FiDi (Financial District)! Someone left a scared dog tied up!!! (sic)," read the caption of the post. Hamm then rushed to the station to save the dog who has since been named Peaches.

'She's coming home with me tonight'

Opening up about she saved the dog, she said that the rescue took place at a time when she was looking to find herself a furry friend. She also commented on the post, saying, "Update!! I have her! She's coming home with me tonight :)"

Hamm rushed to the subway station

Recounting the events of how she gave the pup her forever home to WABC, Hamm revealed that she took a Lyft to the subway station immediately after seeing the post on her feed. Upon her arrival, she saw two police officers standing with the dog. "And I was just like, 'Can I have her?'" she recalled. "And they're like, 'Well, she's your dog now because she obviously likes you,'" she added. "I called her Peaches, and she responded. So, I kinda think that's already her name." Hamm, who is a photographer and jewelry designer, further revealed that she often uses the Instagram page and has even gotten some of her own furniture from seeing the posts. "I found my coffee table; I found my couch that I was sitting on when I saw this dog. I found so much on this page, so this is my craziest stoop find yet," she said.

Peaches is in good health

Hamm had previously lived with a dog and was searching for one at the time of the unplanned rescue. "I was actually just looking previously at foster dogs, and then, I had opened up Instagram and I saw her. She was the first post on there, and I was like, 'There she is,'" she said. She then took the pup to get examined. The vet reportedly did not find a microchip on Peaches and revealed that she was between six and nine months old and in good health.
