Woman forced to travel economy with toddler on 14-hour flight while husband 'laps it up' in business
A woman was left fuming after learning that her ‘selfish’ husband bought himself a business class ticket, but booked her and their two-year-old toddler in economy on a long-haul journey. The furious woman said her husband had been traveling for a work trip and said she and their son should accompany him to “tag on” a holiday.
“I only agreed to go if [my son] and I flew premium economy as it’s a long way, I’ll be on my own with a toddler whilst [my husband] is in business class (work paid for his ticket)," the angry wife explained on the parenting forum Mumsnet, adding “[He] said fine, no problem, had lots of points to use. Booked the flights. Told me had booked premium.” But six weeks later, she discovered that her husband lied as he booked them the cheapest “economy tickets available (no seat reservation option/upgrade option).”

The woman even tried to contact the airlines to change her seat but the staffers said the flight was fully booked, or quoted her £2,000 ($2,450) for an upgrade. She explained that the flight was 14 hours long and it wouldn’t be easy for her to travel with a two-year-old toddler as a lone parent. “I’ve gone nuts at my [husband] because I think he’s a selfish prick that was too tight to book a seat reservation when making the booking. Meanwhile, he laps it up in business class.”
She also expressed concern about attempting to get her toddler to sleep in the middle seat because other passengers would most likely get up to move around or use the restroom. “I doubt we can swap halfway through but did wonder if he could take [our son] to sleep with him as he will be able to lie down?” she asked Mumsnet users.
The users on the parenting forum soon came on her side and slammed the husband for making a bad decision. “Why are you the one ringing around and trying to sort this? Does your husband often treat you with such utter disrespect? I wouldn’t be going on this holiday,” one user said. “Just swap tickets with [your husband] and he if tries approaching you claim not to know him. Enjoy the champagne,” suggested another, while the third said, "Swap seats halfway. He moves to the economy seat for half the trip, you have business class. It’s selfish.” Some people could see her husband's side, with one commenting, "I kind of get why he didn't pay business class for the extra two seats, it's incredibly expensive."
