'About damn time': Internet on cloud nine as X-23 rumored to make a comeback in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'

The first trailer for 'Deadpool & Wolverine' was released during the 2024 Super Bowl, generating a lot of buzz on the Internet

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Marvel's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024, and excitement is building for the appearances of beloved characters and special cameos. Among them is fan-favorite X-23.

The first trailer for 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, was released during the 2024 Super Bowl, sparking excitement online. Packed with R-rated humor, including Wade Wilson dubbing himself "Marvel Jesus," the trailer has left fans eagerly counting down the days until July.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of X-23 to the big screen. Recently, Marvel Updates hinted on their official X account that Dafne Keen might reprise her role as X-23 from 'Logan' in the upcoming 'Deadpool & Wolverine'.

The post that was uploaded on X on Tuesday, April 16 read, "X-23 will appear in Deadpool 3 Dafne Keen will return as Laura Kinney and will be a Wolverine variant in the void."

Who is X-23?

The most beloved X-Men character is James 'Logan' Howlett, commonly known as Wolverine. He's been a big part of comics and movies since 1974, appearing in every X-Men animated series and even headlining his show, 'Wolverine and the X-Men'.

Hugh Jackman had the privilege of bringing him to life in 2000's 'X-Men', alongside Patrick Stewart and Halle Berry. He starred in every main X-Men movie, with his final appearance as Wolverine in 2017's 'Logan', which also introduced his successor: X-23, also known as Laura.

In 'Logan', X-23 (Dafne Keen) is essentially a female version of Logan. The movie portrays Logan and a 97-year-old Professor Xavier living in a world with no new mutants for over 25 years. Their quiet life is disrupted when Laura, pursued by a mutant-hating group, enters their lives.

While comic book characters typically originate from the pages of comic books, Laura Kinney, also known as X-23, made her debut in the animated series 'X-Men: Evolution'.

In the show, which centered on teenage heroes, X-23 stood out among characters like Wolverine, Professor Xavier, and Storm. Her popularity ultimately led to her transition to the comics in Joe Quesada's NYX miniseries.

Created by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost for 'X-Men: Evolution', X-23 was conceived as a clone of Wolverine, aimed at appealing to younger audiences. Initially appearing in just two episodes, she later made her comic book debut in NYX #3.

Quesada revised her backstory, depicting her as a mute prostitute living on the streets of New York City, using her claws to cope with stress. X-23's popularity soared, leading to her miniseries delving into her back story and subsequent appearances in 'New X-Men', 'X-Force', 'Uncanny X-Men', and her series, 'X-23: Target X'.

Her transition to live-action was a natural progression of her popularity, akin to Batman's Harley Quinn.

X-23's comeback in 'Deadpool & Wolverine' sends internet into frenzy

Fans are buzzing with excitement after hearing the news of X-23's return, with one saying, "F**k yes, about damn time!" "She’s gonna go crazyyyyy," wrote one fan, while another said, "Shit this movie is gonna break the cinema when it’s out."

Many fans are speculating about her role in the movie. One fan commented, "I love her in login and my theory that they travel in the future or she come from the future and she tell him she it his daughter and he died while protect her."

Another fan said, "I hope she’s the Logan variant and she has an emotional reaction to the Wolverine from the movie. He has no idea who she is. That would be peak."

One fan speculated, "She’s gonna cut Wade into pieces when he insults her suit." Another ambitious fan said, "This will be more than amazing maybe a series or a movie with X23 ohh a man can dream." 

Circling back to the excitement, a fan wrote, "I will be seated" Talking about Dafne Keen, while another fan commented, "Damn she's really grown up."
