Will 'The Umbrella Academy' end with Season 4? Showrunner feels series is moving towards 'endgame'
Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ was released a few days ago on Netflix and opened to a positive response. Critics, as well as the audiences, praised the show for its emotional depth and how character arcs were handled this time around. However, the ending of Season 3 seems to be telling us that the end might be near.
In the final episode of Season 3, we see Allison killing Reginald Hargreeves for taking advantage of the situation and draining the powers of her friends for his own personal gains. The machine was created to reset the timeline and make everything normal, but it took something very precious from them. When the machine got successful in resetting the timelines, the entire Umbrella Academy was transported into a new time and everyone was present there, including Ben (Justin H Min). Luther was looking out for Sloane and when he couldn’t find her, he starts asking questions from Five (Aidan Gallagher).

'The Umbrella Academy' Season 3 Ending Explained: Did Hargreeves siblings lose all their powers?
Five tried to move away from that situation by using his superpowers, but he wasn’t able to use them. It turns out that everyone has lost their powers after entering the new timeline. Every member went their own way, with no clear indication if they will come together in the future or not. It seems the makers have also realized that end is near for the series and maybe that’s why it is being reported that Season 4 might turn out to be the show’s last.
While speaking in an interview with The Wrap, showrunner Steve Blackman revealed that if ‘The Umbrella Academy’ gets renewed for Season 4, it might be the last time viewers will see the team of superheroes on screen. Even though Blackman doesn’t know if Netflix will renew the show for another season or not, he knows what the plot of Season 4 would be.
“I think inevitably if we got a Season 4, it’s going towards an endgame. I think at a certain point, I’m not sure where we’d go after Season 4. We have to be careful,” Blackman said.
However, he also revealed that he can do “more” with the story, but ending the show with Season 4 will be “satisfying” for the audiences. He added, “It’s a challenge to come up with a new way to subvert this storyline, and I think we have an idea how to do that. But I think if we got to Season 4, it would be a great ending for the run of the show. I’m not saying I couldn’t do more, but you know, I think that would be very satisfying for the audience, four seasons.”
As of now, the show hasn’t been renewed for Season 4, but it’s highly likely that the announcement for a new edition will soon be made. If Season 4 turns out to be the team’s last adventure, the makers would have to stitch an extraordinary story to bring the superhero siblings together and make them fight the most dangerous villain they have ever encountered.
‘The Umbrella Academy’ currently holds a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
