Will Max and Helen reunite on 'New Amsterdam' Season 5?
It was a heartbreak of an ending for Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) in the finale of 'New Amsterdam' Season 4, and by the looks of it, the pain might continue throughout Season 5 set to premiere later in September. After Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) refuses to come to the US from London, it's all but confirmed that there's bad news on the horizon for Max.
Tragic as the events of Season 4 may seem, Helen's refusal for marriage also perhaps has a lot to do with Agyeman's departure from the hit NBC medical drama. She announced her departure on Instagram earlier in May, "Dearest Dam Fam. First off I would like to say a huge heartfelt THANK YOU for your unending, dedicated and deliciously ferocious support! I feel very fortunate to have connected with so many of you over these past few years, while rolling around in the skin of Ms. Helen Sharpe, and witness every ebb and flow of your emotional investment." "What a ride! Thank you for being on it with me," she continued. "She has meant so much to me, but the time has come for me to hang up her white coat, as I officially share the news that I will not be returning for the final season of New Amsterdam."

With Agyeman's departure, the hopes of a happy end to her relationship with Max appear slim. But, this is TV and anything can happen. Perhaps, the show may give the couple their sunset send-off by filming the finale first up, which would mean these sequences would be shot well before the 43-year-old announced her departure.
The show is set to air its final season, and it makes sense to give the ending that all 'Sharpwin' fans have asked for. Or is there a new relationship on the cards? It's a bit difficult to see how it pans out for the good doctor, and the latter theory just might not be a possibility. The fourth season was an emotional rollercoaster with multiple storylines and characters getting ample screen time. Now, the fifth season will look to tie up all the arcs.
'New Amsterdam' Season 5 premieres on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at 10/9c on NBC and is available for streaming the following day on Peacock.
