Google did not feature a Google Doodle to commemorate Easter on its site inviting outrage

All Christians worldwide observed April 9 as Easter 2023 to commemorate Jesus Christ's resurrection after his crucifixion and burial. Every Christian family celebrates Easter as a very important day.

Although Easter is among the most significant holidays for the Christians around the world, Google didn't feature a Google Doodle to commemorate the occasion on its site. Read on to know the reason.

Why was there no Google Doodle on Easter?

Google normally refrains from mentioning or commemorating religious festivals, particularly in Doodles, or in cases when they do, religious themes and iconography are avoided.

Easter is a completely religious festival, hence Google did not release a doodle on its homepage. Christmas get a Google Doodle Google Doodle because it is a more commercialized holiday with fewer religious undertones.

Has Google done this before?

When Google did not release a doodle for Easter, several conservative pundits expressed their displeasure on social media, claiming that the search engine provided doodles for a number of other occasions, they had not done so for Easter.

"Anyone else notice that @Google did not decorate their name for Easter? Odd....they decorate for literally everything else You’d think the day that celebrates the very foundation of Christianity would be a day they would decorate as well? Weird right #Easter2019," a person tweeted.

Some accused Google of bias for honoring holidays from other religions such as the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. "Hi @google - former fan here. Another year of no #Easter #GoogleDoodle - so I’m heading to @DuckDuckGo where they respect my religion and my data! Goodbye @Google - I’m done with you! @seanhannity @RealJamesWoods @TuckerCarlson @jasoninthehouse @greggutfeld @JesseBWatters," another tweeted.

In 2018, Google told Fox News, "We don't have Doodles for religious holidays, in line with our current Doodle guidelines. Doodles may appear for some non-religious celebrations that have grown out of religious holidays, such as Valentine's Day, Holi's Festival of Colors, Tu B'Av and the December holiday period, but we don't include religious imagery or symbolism as part of these."
