Update: Internet's 'Clark Kent' has since been identified as Alex Wollet, a 23-year-old medical student from Youngstown, Ohio.

A 2017 graduate from Cardinal Mooney High School, the 5-foot-10 student played basketball. went on to study neuroscience at Ohio State University.  Wollet is now living in Washington, DC, and completing a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, TMZ reports. Along with that, he is supposedly involved in a university program to bring Columbus, Ohio, in alignment with the requirements of the EPA’s Clean Air Act. People on Twitter are drooling over a mystery man sitting in the front row at the January 6 hearing. During the hearings on Thursday night, July 21, at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC, a man labeled "Clark Kent" was seen seated behind witnesses Sarah Matthews and Matthew Pottinger.

At the hearings, former Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Matthews and former National Security Council member Matthew Pottinger both testified. Sadly for all the fans of the mysterious man, we've found some information that may disappoint you. Journalist Yashar Ali did not reveal the man's identity, but he did tell that he is straight and in a relationship. “The good looking man sitting behind Pottinger is not single. That’s all I will say and that’s all you need to know!” Ali revealed this on Twitter.

Ali responded to Andy Cohen's thirst tweet with, "He's straight and in a relationship".

Many people believe that the man seated just behind Matthews is her boyfriend. Many people are relating the man's appearance to that of Superman's real-life alter-ego Clark Kent, and some quipped that he's there to cover the hearings for the Daily Planet. Fans on Twitter are proposing their own speculations that link the mystery hunk to the Superhero.

A Twitter user wrote, "Best part about today’s January 6th hearing was everyone pointing out how hot Clark Kent is. Unfortunately y’all he is a married to Pulitzer Prize winner Lois Lane. I know, I was sad too."

The mystery man now has his own #hashtag circulating the internet, as one person noticed: "Omgosh I love Twitter! I just searched for #guybehindPottinger because I wondered if I was the only one who thinks he looks like Clark Kent and sure enough Twitter sees!!"

It didn't take long for the mystery man to become a trending topic on Twitter either: "First time he was on the screen, I asked my other half, "Who's the impossibly handsome guy on the right? Looks like a Millennial Clark Kent." Opened Twitter a few minutes later to find "Clark Kent" trending. Guess I wasn't the only one who thought that!"

Soon enough, his political affiliation became a matter of discussion as well. "He's a 10 but his political status is unconfirmed #clarkkent #January6thHearing," one user wrote.

Few fans seem frustrated that the social networking site couldn't do its wonder and reveal the identity of the mystery man: "Quite disappointed that Twitter hasn’t figured out who this Clark Kent looking dude is, including his political affiliation. y’all are usually ON IT #January6thHearing."

Many fans are also demanding to have him in more future hearings: "Can we make a rule for future 1/6 hearings to never ever place Clark Kent behind any of the witnesses so I can actually hear what they’re saying? Thanks."

A Twitter user also took this moment to give the public a reality check by saying: "Just imagine that #ClarkKent, the guy behind Pottinger, is all in with repealing all your privacies, bodily autonomy, and equal protections, and suddenly he’s not so hot."

Amidst the ongoing San Diego Comic Con, a fan quipped: "You know the #January6thHearing is a big deal when Clark Kent of all people is skipping San Diego Comic Con for it."

The irony that Clark Kent was trending for something wholly unrelated to comic books demonstrates Superman's clout in American popular culture. Perhaps the audience requires a new 'Superman' film.
