The most “credible” theory about Covid-19’s origin is that it broke out from a laboratory in China, one of most senior government officials of the US has now come out saying. Matthew Pottinger, deputy national security adviser of the US, spoke with politicians across the globe during a Zoom conference and told them that even Chinese leaders are now saying that a market in Wuhan was not responsible for the birth of the deadly virus unlike previous claims, The Daily Mail reported. Pottinger stated that according to the latest intelligence, the top-secret Wuhan Institute of Virology, 11 miles from the market, gave 'birth' to Covid-19. “There is a growing body of evidence that the lab is likely the most credible source of the virus,” he added.

Pottinger also noted that there is a possibility that the virus originated from a “leak or an accident” as he mentioned, “even establishment figures in Beijing have openly dismissed the wet market story.” The claims have been made by the 48-year-old amid reports stating that a team of experts from the World Health Organisation is preparing to go to Wuhan to investigate as to how the pandemic began. “MPs around the world have a moral role to play in exposing the WHO investigation as a Potemkin exercise,” the former journalist said while referring to dummy villages that were made in the 18th century in Crimea to reassure the Russian Empress Catherine the Great, who was visiting the region at the time, that the place was in good health.

Meanwhile, Iain Duncan Smith, a former British Tory Party leader who attended the meeting, said, “I was told that the US has an ex-scientist from the laboratory in America at the moment. That was what I heard a few weeks ago. I was led to believe this is how they have been able to stiffen up their position on how this outbreak originated.” He also added that the “truth is there are people who have been in those labs who maintain that this is the case. We don't know what they have been doing in that laboratory. They may well have been fiddling with bat coronaviruses and looking at them and they made a mistake. I've spoken to various people who believe that to be the case.”

Ian Birrell, journalist and former speechwriter to ex-British Prime Minister David Cameron, wrote for The Daily Mail, “Last week, leaked documents exposed how the Chinese government, under orders from President Xi Jinping, is strictly controlling all research into the origins of Covid while promoting fringe theories suggesting it came from outside China. And it is an uncomfortable coincidence that Wuhan — a city buzzing once again, with busy shops, packed restaurants and many people without masks on the streets celebrating New Year — is home to the world's top coronavirus research unit as well as ground zero to a pandemic from a strange new strain.”
