PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: 'American Idol', the popular singing competition program on ABC, is back for a brand-new Season 21! Excited viewers have tuned in to follow the judges' search for the next singing sensation. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will hold the title of judges for the sixth season in a row.

The first episode featured some of the most talented singers, but there was one contestant who received the first 'no' of the season. Jack Nicora, a 20-year-old multi-talented, self-taught musician, singer/songwriter, and pianist will not be heading to the next round. Nicora belongs to McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He generally performs the 1950s and 1960s Doo Wop and early rock and roll. Nicora and his pet bird Mango failed to impress the judges, but the fans think the judges were a bit too distracted during his performance and their behavior was "disrespectful."

Why did Jack Nicora get rejected?

Nicora sang 'In the Still of the Night' on American Idol Season 21 Auditions on February 19, 2023 episode. His pet bird Mango spent the time entertaining all three judges. Nicora is sweet and his voice is okay but it failed to get him a golden ticket. Jack loves Doo Wop music and hopes he can give it a resurgence on the airwaves.

The judges spend his performance on their feet dancing the whole time, but it was still a 'No' from their side. Katy said "You have a nice timbre but, you have to work on your breathing. You’re chopping it up.” Luke added that the vocals need to “get buttoned up.” Lionel said he’s "too niche". Nicora is the only rejection we see during the episode among the 11 featured singers.

'Katy running off at the end was just ick'

Nicora is a gifted pianist, but the judges were so busy dancing around fans are not sure they were even listening to his voice. One fan said, "They treated him rudely, standing up and singing along to his performance like it was a joke. It is fine they didn’t put him through, but they were mean. And Katy running off at the end was just ick." Another one added, "This guy deserves an apology from all the judges. #Americanidol #KatyisaClown." Another one said, "Jack was decent but old-style songs don't do it on these shows #AmericanIdol #IDOLpremiere."

Katy even interrupted Lionel while he was giving feedback to Nicora, as she got distracted by the birds. Fans were pretty infuriated with this behavior and one tweeted, "Really???? And you were so unbelievably disrespectful to Jack Nicora. How is he any less talented than the 50s singers like B Holly? He has charisma and I hope the real Hollywood puts him in the movies. So disappointed in you 3." Another said, "JUSTICE FOR MANGO!" One more user added, "Jack Nicora sat at the piano with Mango, doing a bit too much on the melody (but the judges weren't paying attention anyway). I think they'd already made up their mind in the beginning. #AmericanIdol #Idolpremiere."
